The primary mission of the Department of Languages ​​is to prepare students to cope with a demanding global community where English is the language of international communication. Learning other languages ​​is also encouraged in the pursuit of our mission.

The department is committed to providing the necessary leadership skills and communication skills to acquire a language and to achieve the required score on the TOEFL and TOEIC exams, and is committed to encouraging and empowering professional development for teachers.

The Language Center of Universidad Panamericana campus Bonaterra offers 7 levels of English.

Levels:

Basic 1

Basic 2

Intermediate 1

Intermediate 2

Advanced 1

Advanced 2

TOEFL or TOEIC

 

Each level corresponds to one semester except for the ones that are taught from 12:45 to 2:15 pm in which two levels will be advanced per semester.

Requirements for elective courses:

UP Aguascalientes offers French classes so students can increase their skills and to prepare better for a world that demands not only two, but more languages to compete in a globalized world.

 

Requirements for elective classes:

Have accredited the TOEFL or TOEIC exams with the score required by each School.

Go to the Language Center offices for a commitment letter. This letter clarifies that you must comply with at least 80% attendance in your classes. If you do not, you will have to pay the cost of the course.

English Exams (TOEFL)

 

Step-by-step procedure:

To accredit English, you must obtain 550 points on the TOEFL exam (560 for students of International Business).

Freshmen may accredit English via a valid TOEFL certificate form another institution. All other students must present the TOEFL exams at the University.

The Cambridge suite of exams is valid for accreditation purposes, according to the following scale: FCE only grade A; CAE of PTE with a grade A,B, or C.

English can be accredited with a score of 700 points on the TOEIC exam. You can take this exams after sophomore year.

 

Requirements to sit the exam

Consult the exam calendar provided by the Language Department.

Make the payment with the cashier

Present proof of payment and copy of oficial ID at the Language Department.

Show up at the appointed date, time, and place with a number 2 pencil and an eraser.

Ask for results at the Language Department.

Pick up your score report at the Department.

Courses and Special Events

 

High School Challenge

The Language Department at UP Bonaterra organizes an annual event with the aim of offering a healthy competition among different local high schools.

In this event, representatives of each school show off their abilities in English, general culture, and stress-management, as they participate on a stage in front of friends, family, and other students.

This event is traditionally held in the month of May.

 

UP Language Challenge

The Language Department at UP Bonaterra organizes an annual event with the aim of offering a healthy competition in a linguistic event among the different schools at Universidad Panamericana.

The event is divided into two large categories according to the English level of the participants.

After several qualifying rounds, the eight finalists in each category face off in the final round to defend their position and show off their abilities in English, general culture, and stress management, as they participate on a stage in front of friends, family, and other students.

 

ICF (International Communication Fair)

The Language Center at UP Bonaterra organizes an annual INTERNATIONAL COMMUNICATION FAIR intended to show off the English skills of the students in a communicative context.

All students of English participate in this fair, where they prepare a stand with elements representing a previously assigned country.  Each of the students gives an oral presentation for judges who evaluate, not only the language skills, but the quality of the presentation and the stand, as well.

 

UPTC    Universidad Panamericana Teachers’ Conference

The Language Center at UP Bonaterra organizes an annual Teacher’s Conference for English teachers throughout the country. Concurrent talks cover topics related to language teaching and learning.

Well-known national and international experts are invited as keynote speakers at this event.
