Specialist in Educational Neurophsychology

The objective of this program is to provide students with the necessary tools in cognitive, behavioral and procedural areas to prevent, develop and assist individuals with learning problems.

  • Ética profesional del especialista en neuropsicología educativa (Duración 32 horas presenciales)

  • Taller de implementación de modelos y estrategias de intervención psicoeducativa (Duración 40 horas presenciales)

The ideal candidate will have:

Perfil de egreso

  • Knowledge

  • Know the structure and function of the nervous system as the biological underpinning of behavior
  • Understand the principal models which explain neuropsychological functions.
  • Identify the behavioral indicators of the learning process and its organic-maturational foundation.
  • Differentiate the role of each of the psychological processes involved in learning and the repercussions of any alterations.
  • Understand the basics and particular features of neuropsychological instruments used for diagnosis and evaluation.
  • Identify the essential elements which make up a psycho-educational intervention method, its nature, levels, types and phases, as well as its relevance to different cases.
  • Recognize the relationship between objectives and content in basic and secondary education, including development processes, learning styles, and learner motivation in order to achieve a holistic education.

    Skills

  • Recognize nerve structure and function, suggesting patterns of action that promote neuronal plasticity.
  • Promote work teams that integrate knowledge in the area of neuropsychology in order to influence through modeling in the educational context.
  • Be able to select neuropsychological assessment tools required in each part of the process.
  • Develop skills for implementation, scoring and interpretation of various neuropsychological instruments considering the established procedures.
  • Write effective assessment reports.
  • Assess the psychological elements involved in the learning process.

    Attitudes

  • Develop an integrated vision of the person as a bio -psycho- social being from an attitude of respect and empathy for individual development and construction of the self.
  • Address the processes of diagnosis and neuropsychological psychoeducational intervention from an ethical stance, with a committed and responsible professionalism, based on the human dignity of the evaluator and / or the patient.
  • Express attitudes of openness to collaboration and multidisciplinary work.
  • Exercise professional ethics in the use of psychological assessment instruments required for the development of neuropsychological diagnosis.
  • Consider the profession as a career for life, know their duties and responsibilities and use resources to enhance their work.
  • Manifest an attitude of service in the development of their professional activity.
  • Establish their pedagogy in philosophical roots, never confusing the means with the end.
  • Undertake to promote the achievement of maximum potential and promote social inclusion by providing attention to learners who have learning difficulties.

    Application of knowledge:

     

    The Specialist in Educational Neuropsychology may act as follows:

    • Conducting assessments using specific instruments.

    • Performing diagnostics through integration reports where neuropsychological disorders are identified.

    • Carrying out specific proposals for intervention in education.

  • Include the contributions of explanatory theoretical models of learning in the approach and implementation of models of psychoeducational intervention.
  • Design and create models of psychoeducational intervention for attention to the development, prevention and / or correction of the processes involved in learning.
  • Identify and establish solutions to problems of Neuropsychology.
  • Design, implement and assess different strategies to identify opportunities and constraints presented by students with learning disabilities.
  • Guide families to promote their participation in the process of psychological attention for students who require it.

Opciones de titulación

The Specialist course in Educational Neuropsychology at Universidad Panamericana, Campus Bonaterra, has established as the only degree option, the development of a capstone project in psycho-educational intervention (based on neuropsychological assessment and intervention). The project will be based on a real case (either individual or institutional) and it will integrate all the aspects covered during the course, or a case study.

 

The project will be presented and defended before a jury.

 

Upon completing the program, there is the option to continue with a second specialist course and thus, obtain a Master’s degree.

 

Specialist is Special Needs Education + Specialist in Education Neuro-Psygology = Master's degree in Neuro-Pysgology and Special Needs Education.
