UP PROFESSOR TAKES PART IN FACULTY VISITING FELLOWSHIP IN POLAND
Dr. Ramiro Velázquez, Professor of the Faculty of Engineering and currently Vice President for Research of campus Aguascalientes was appointed as visiting professor at the Department of Information Technology, College of Social and Media Culture (Wyższa Szkoła Kultury Społecznej i Medialnej - WSKSiM) in Torun, Poland.
Dr. Velázquez visited WSKSiM from October 20-27, 2017. During this time, he taught a seminar on Biomedical Image Processing to the students of the 3rd and 4th years of the BS in Information Technology. He also took part in an open meeting with students and visited the impressive facilities of TV Trwam and Radio Maryja.
This visit, sponsored by the Erasmus+ Program for Higher Education Student and Staff Mobility (European Commission), was also an opportunity to meet Polish colleagues with the same or similar research interests, all with the goal of developing collaborations, research projects, co-authoring articles, and establishing an exchange program with faculty and students of UP.
“This has been a great experience and is a tremendous opportunity for UP to establish collaborations on research and education with Poland” said Dr. Velázquez.
WSKSiM focuses on four disciplines: culture studies, journalism and social communication, political science, and information technology. Torun, located in northern Poland (260 km from Warsaw), is a UNESCO world heritage city for its intact medieval downtown. It is the birthplace of Nicolaus Copernicus.
Dr. Velázquez hopes that the first exchanges between UP and WSKSiM students take place in 2018.
