UP Alumni participates in the Inter-American Court of Human Rights

Aguascalientes, Ags., March 3, 2025. The Universidad Panamericana campus Aguascalientes, is proud that its alumni are alumniMr. Roberto Huerta Diéguez Roberto Huerta Dieguezof the School of Lawto be a member of the Inter-American Court of Human Rights (IACHR) through an internship in the area of Sentence Compliance Supervision, reaffirming our institution's commitment to academic excellence and the training of jurists with international impact.

From the classroom to the courtroom: a trajectory driven by UP

During his time at the Universidad Panamericana, Roberto had the opportunity to compete at the prestigious Eduardo Jiménez de Aréchaga Competition (JSCA) which involves analyzing a hypothetical case in the area of public international law that must be solved by the teams through memorials. The solution must be argued orally in front of the Inter-American Court of Human Rights in San José, Costa Rica.

Under the coaching of Sofia Cuellar and Alenka Salazar, the team won the JSCA 2023, where they also received the Best Final Speaker award. Roberto received recognition as the Best Final Speaker of the competition.. This achievement allowed him to access the internship at the IACHR, consolidating his path in the international legal arena.

Impact of your internship at the Inter-American Court of Human Rights

As part of his experience at the IACHR, Roberto contributes in the drafting of memorials, collaborates in meetings with state agencies and participates in the elaboration of draft resolutions. In addition, he had the opportunity to attend the public and private hearings of the 172nd Regular Session, giving him a unique perspective on the practical application of international human rights law.

"The work I am doing with this professional visit in the area of Supervision of Compliance with Sentences is fundamental for the Court, since it involves the establishment of reparation measures, as well as the follow-up of their implementation", he said.emphasizes the alumni.

For the law school graduate, his participation in the Inter-American Court has been an excellent opportunity to contribute to such an important institution, as well as to grow professionally and personally.

"Working directly with lawyers gives me a closer and more practical view of how international human rights law is handled on a day-to-day basis, providing me with opportunities to further develop in this area," she shares.she shares.
