Specialist Course and Master's in Bioethics (Health Sciences)

The Interdisciplinary Center for Bioethics at Universidad Panamericana (CIBUP) is pleased to offer its postgraduate courses.


The current age demands solid virtues in scientific labor, committed professionals in a world of pragmatic interests where respect for the rights of individuals, especially those more vulnerable, is not always a priority.


The Specialist course and Master’s in Bioethics is an excellent program which seeks to establish

the bases of current bioethical stances, oriented towards practical work in hospital committees and ethics in research, without disregarding a good theoretical grounding.


The program boasts a distinguished faculty from the Colleges of Law and Philosophy and the

School of Medicine, with ample experience in research, both in their specific fields, as well as in

Bioethics and Health Sciences.


In recognition of the excellent level of the program, it has been named part of the National Program of Quality Postgraduate Courses of CONACyT (National Commission of Science and Technology), whose mission is to : “encourage continuous improvement and quality assurance of the national postgraduate programs giving sustenance to increase the scientific, technological, social, humanistic skills and innovation in the country. "


We are confident that these programs will be a milestone of great importance, both personal and professional and social, due to the many benefits of the knowledge it generates.


General Objective

Educate people to promote, teach, research and apply Bioethics from a solid theoretical and

practical knowledge in bioethical decision making, focusing on respect for life and human dignity, positively influencing society.


Specific Objectives

Professional in Bioethics will be able to:

• Reflect on the profound knowledge of man

• Understand the biology of life in all its stages

• Understand the legal issues impacting bioethical issues

• Analyze currents and principles of bioethics and promote interdisciplinary work

• Assist in Hospital Ethics Committees for Research, Bioethics and Transplants

• Promote bioethics through teaching, participation in conferences and media

• Conduct research in bioethics

• Influence socio-political fields where decisions are taken with regards to life and health



The lines of generation and application of knowledge are consistent with the curriculum. Thesis

topics serve a specific institutional or national need in the field of bioethics and clinical research on humans.

The research areas are defined according to the research products of the teachers of the core,

which are:

Bioethics and Human Rights. It is a comprehensive and essential line in the bioethical

approach. It includes the right to life, health, privacy, non-discrimination, justice, conscientious

objection. It has an interdisciplinary approach among medicine, law and philosophy.


Hospital Bioethics Committees. This line is one of the most important for the development of

research ethics applications and addressing bioethical dilemmas of hospital practice. It includes

bioethics committees, research ethics, transplantation, maternal and fetal risk and issues related to them, such as suspension of therapies, conflicts in the relationship of health, health policy, malpractice and those related to quality of care and good medical practice. It has an interdisciplinary approach among medicine, law and philosophy.


Physician-Patient Relationship. It is a basic line of inquiry in medical ethics and bioethics. It

covers what the relationship should be like and the kind of problem which may appear, either

biotechnological or in clinical or surgical application. It covers topics considered in declarations of medical deontology and bioethics. The focus is interdisciplinary among medicine, law, and

Theoretical classes take place Mondays and Wednesdays from 5:30 to 9:30 pm, at the School of Medicine.

The committee practices take place in additional schedules in different hospital centers.

The graduate  is able to respond to Bioethics problems currently facing society. He or she has the theoretical and practical knowledge necessary to engage in the search for solutions in the field of health, both in the clinic and in research. His or her work is distinguished by its timely and effective intervention for the legitimate rights of patients and their dignity. His or her comprehensive scientific and humanistic training will equip the graduate with the principles, beliefs, skills and attitudes necessary for the challenges of today's technology, especially to actively participate in decisions of Hospital Ethics Committees of Bioethics and Research, teaching at the Master’s level, dissemination and promotion of bioethical knowledge and research.

• Contribute to problem solving in other disciplines using the knowledge and skills acquired

Opciones de titulación

Specialist course: cover the corresponding credits, exam of general knowledge, and minimum grade average of 8.


Master’s: all of the above, plus a thesis or an article published in an indexed journal.
