STUDENTS OF MECHATRONICS ENGINEERING PRESENT FORMULA SAE CAR
ZAPOPAN, Jalisco; April 24, 2018-A student team from the School of Mechatronic Engineering presented their Formula SAE car. They will be competing in this category in Nebraska next June.
The UPR-618 by UP Racing was created by the students over the course of a year. During this time, they conducted research and developed the vehicle, in preparation for the contest.
The competition involves around 100 student teams from universities worldwide, participating in different stages. During the presentation that took place on campus at the Santander Auditorium, the team spoke about the competition, as well as the design and construction of the car.
To kick off the event, Juan Carlos Flores Miramontes, dean of the School of Mechatronics Engineering thanked everyone for their attendance. He explained that the car was built by the students, starting from a 600 cm3 engine, and based on the specifications provided by the Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE).
The team members explained that their mission was to design and build a formula-type car, with the aim of learning more about the automotive sector. They mentioned the usefulness of this type of project for their personal and professional lives.
During the presentation, the students also talked about the different characteristics of the car such as design, track performance, braking, and sound, among others. Each team will also present a business plan.
The vehicles will be judged on power, efficiency, and maneuverability, elements that were taken into account at the time of construction. The chassis, the body, the suspension, and the safety brakes, among others, were all made by the students.
Universidad Panamericana, campus Guadalajara and the Faculty of Engineering congratulate the students for this great achievement and wish them success in the competition that will take place in June.
