UNIVERSIDAD PANAMERICANA HOSTS FERC 2018
ZAPOPAN, Jalisco; June 11, 2018- Universidad Panamericana campus Guadalajara was honored to host the Family Enterprise Research Conference (FERC) 2018.
The international event took place from June 7th to 9th and was organized by the department of Administration and Management of Family Enterprises. The focus for this year’s conference was Family Traditions and Culture: Values and Legacy in Entrepreneurial Families.
The conference highlighted how family traditions and culture influence family behavior and company philosophy.
The first day of activities held talks on methodologies for research into family businesses. Keynote speakers included Tyga Payne of Texas Tech University and Pramodita Sharma of the University of Vermont.
Different panels focused on topics such as theory and research methods for family businesses, and research on family firms in Latin America.
The second day of the conference included the talk Family Enterprise Resilience in Emerging and Frontier Markets: An Evolving Research Program, with speakers Devin De Ciantis and Ivan Lansberg of the Kellogg School of Management. As part of the recreational activities, a tour of the nearby town of Tequila was offered to the participants.
The final day of the conference was equally successful. The talk Values and legacy in entrepreneurial families: The power of intergenerational narratives was given by Eleanor Hamilton of Lancaster University. Her talk touched on the importance of communication through narratives, and the effect these have on the identity and dynamics of the firm.
Another panel was Past, Present and Future of Family Business Research by Kelin Gersick of Yale University and Ivan Lansberg of the Kellogg School of Management.
Other important activities included a visit to view the murals at Instituto Cultural Cabañas and the closing gala dinner with awards ceremony.
