INTERNATIONAL ARBITRATION EXPERTS MEET AT THE UP

The 5th Conference on International Arbitration celebrated the 40th anniversary of the United Nations Convention on Contracts for the International Sale of Goods.
The CISG Advisory Council discussed issues of arbitration, the harmonization and unification of law and the legacy of the Vienna Convention.
The Law Faculty of the Universidad Panamericana Campus Guadalajara held the 5th Conference on International Arbitration and the United Nations Convention on Contracts for the International Sale of Goods (CISG), in collaboration with the United Nations Commission for International Trade Law (UNCITRAL).
The conference also celebrated the 40th anniversary of the enactment of the CISG in Vienna, Austria in 1980. As part of the commemorative events, the members of the CISG Advisory Council were present, which includes distinguished global practitioners and academics, experts in international arbitration.
The Director of the Law Faculty, Dr. Isabel Álvarez, expressed that “it is an honour for the University; today, on the 40th anniversary of the birth of the CISG, it will be full of professional and personal learning, where those present will be enriched and will reflect on the topics to be discussed, since that is what university life is all about".
In this 5th edition of the conference, the speakers discussed the legacy that the Vienna Convention has had in national and international legislation. The issue of conformity of goods, the right to replacement and repair in the light of the Vienna Convention were some of the topics discussed during the event.
The Advisory Council of the CISG is a private initiative, constituted with the purpose of contributing to the correct understanding of the Convention, promoting and collaborating in its uniform interpretation.
The Universidad Panamericana recognizes the distinguished trajectory of the speakers, coming from the United States, United Kingdom, South Africa, Japan, Serbia, Mexico, Guatemala, Italy, Spain, Canada, Switzerland, Germany, and Brazil, who were also referees in the 5th Pre-Moot UP GDL, held on February 7th, as a preparation for the International Arbitration Willem C. Vis Moot 2020 competition, with headquarters in the cities of Vienna and Hong Kong.
In this 5th edition of the Pre-Moot there will participate institutions such as the Universidad Panamericana Guadalajara, Loyola University New Orleans, Universidad Panamericana Aguascalientes, Escuela Libre de Derecho, Universidad Panamericana Campus Ciudad de México, Instituto Tecnológico y de Estudios Superiores de Monterrey, Santa Fe, Instituto Tecnológico Autónomo de México, Universidad de Costa Rica and University of Houston Law Center.
