Tópicos, the Philosophy Journal of Universidad Panamericana, Advances to Q2 in the 2024 SJR Ranking

Mexico City, May 6, 2025.- Tópicos, the academic journal published by the Faculty of Philosophy at Universidad Panamericana, has been ranked in Q2 of the 2024 Scimago Journal Rank (SJR), reaffirming its standing as one of the leading philosophy journals in Mexico and one of the most influential in Ibero-America.

Notably, Tópicos ranks among the top 15 philosophy journals in Ibero-America, competing alongside long-established international publications. This achievement confirms its growing impact and relevance in the Spanish-speaking academic community.

Recognition with Global Impact

This advancement opens new opportunities for inter-institutional collaboration, fosters academic exchange with high-level researchers, and enhances the university’s visibility in the world’s leading scientific networks. It also positions Tópicos as a highly competitive and reliable platform for scholars seeking to publish in prestigious indexed journals, thereby increasing its appeal within the global humanities research ecosystem.

The SJR ranking is one of the most significant academic metrics, based on citation analysis and the prestige of journals. Being ranked in Q2 means Tópicos is now within the top 50% of the world’s most influential philosophy journals.

A Philosophy Journal with International Reach

Founded in 1991, Tópicos has become a semiannual open-access publication with a high level of academic rigor. It publishes articles in multiple languages—including Spanish, English, French, German, Italian, Portuguese, and Latin—and is distributed in over 25 countries, including the United States, the United Kingdom, Brazil, Israel, China, and South Africa.

Each article undergoes a double-blind peer review process, with evaluations conducted by external international experts. Our goal is to contribute to the development of high-level philosophical knowledge,” says Dr. Luis Xavier López Farjeat, editor-in-chief since 2012 and a Level III member of Mexico’s National System of Researchers (SNII for its acronym in Spanish).

A Team Committed to Editorial Excellence

The journal’s advancement to Q2 is the result of a sustained trajectory and the dedicated work of a small but highly effective editorial team, consisting of Dr. López Farjeat, Dr. Karen González (managing editor), and Mr. Luis Bazet (technical and editorial manager). Their unwavering commitment to quality has been essential throughout every stage of the publication process.

This recognition marks a significant milestone for Universidad Panamericana, further consolidating its Faculty of Philosophy as a reference point in the production, projection, and dissemination of humanistic thought at an international level.

By climbing to Q2 in the SJR ranking, Tópicos not only demonstrates the academic quality and rigor of its publications but also serves as a hub for the global philosophical community.
