María Elena García Peláez Cruz

María-Elena García Peláez Cruz studied Philosophy at the Universidad Panamericana. Her Master's thesis on the biological assumptions of Aristotle's Politics was awarded the Norman Sverdlin prize. She received her PhD in Philosophy from UNAM with the thesis La relevancia cosmológica, metafísica y fisiológica de la reproducción en los tratados biológicos de Aristóteles y sus repercusiones en la definibilidad de la mujer (The cosmological, metaphysical and physiological relevance of reproduction in Aristotle's biological treatises and their repercussions on the definability of women). From 2013 to 2023 she was Director of the School of Philosophy at Panamericana, where she is also a tenured professor of History of Ancient Philosophy. She has been co-director of SWIP-Analytic, Mexico and is interested in Aristotelian biology. She has collaborated in several research projects and has published in books and journals.

Currently she is about to publish a monographic volume on the relevance of the reproductive theory in Aristotle with special emphasis on the feminine aspect. She has participated in and organized international colloquia on Women in Antiquity. She is co-organizer of the Consortium in Ancient Philosophy between Princeton-Sao Paulo-Pan American Universities since 2019. Together with Luis Xavier López Farjeat she launched the podcast: "Entremundos: Reflexiones y digresiones sobre historia, cultura y religión". She co-edited the books: "Greek Archaic Thought and Its Ancient and Modern Receptions" and Acerca de la Filosofía del Humor. In 2022 she was visiting professor at the Catholic University of Louvain, Belgium and in 2023 at the Universidad del Valle, Colombia (online).
