María Elena García Peláez Cruz

María-Elena García Peláez Cruz earned a bachelor’s degree in philosophy from the Universidad Panamericana. Her master’s thesis on the biological assumptions underlying Aristotle’s Politics was awarded the Norman Sverdlin Prize. She earned her Ph.D. in Philosophy from UNAM with the dissertation The Cosmological, Metaphysical, and Physiological Relevance of Reproduction in Aristotle’s Biological Treatises and Its Implications for the Definability of Women. From 2013 to 2023, she served as Director of the School of Philosophy at the Universidad Panamericana, where she is also a tenured professor of the History of Ancient Philosophy. She has been co-director of SWIP-Analytic, Mexico, and is interested in Aristotelian biology. She has collaborated on various research projects and has published in books and specialized journals.

She is currently preparing to publish a monograph on the significance of Aristotle’s theory of reproduction, with a special focus on the feminine aspect. She has participated in and organized international symposia on women in antiquity. Since 2019, she has been a co-organizer of the Consortium on Ancient Philosophy between Princeton, São Paulo, and Panamericana Universities. Together with Luis Xavier López Farjeat, she launched the podcast: “Entremundos: Reflections and Digressions on History, Culture, and Religion.” She co-edits the books: “Greek Archaic Thought and Its Ancient and Modern Receptions” and On the Philosophy of Humor. In 2022, she was a visiting professor at the Catholic University of Louvain, Belgium, and in 2023 at the University of Valle, Colombia (online).
