Virginia Pascual Ramos is a physician, internist, rheumatologist, and bioethicist. She earned her medical degree from the Autonomous University of Madrid and completed her residency training in Internal Medicine and Rheumatology at the Salvador Zubirán National Institute of Medical Sciences and Nutrition, with academic recognition from UNAM.
She holds a master’s degree and a Ph.D. in Bioethics from the National Autonomous University of Mexico ( Universidad Panamericana). She is currently the research coordinator at CIBUP at the National Institute of Health and Research ( Universidad Panamericana), a specialist physician at the Salvador Zubirán National Institute of Medical Sciences and Nutrition, and an adjunct professor in the rheumatology specialization program at UNAM.
Her research integrates clinical practice and bioethical reflection, focusing on rheumatoid arthritis, systemic lupus erythematosus, cardiovascular risk, dignity, autonomy, shared decision-making, the doctor-patient relationship, and therapeutic futility. She has contributed to more than 100 scientific publications and is a member of the international groups ATACC-RA and GLADEL. She has collaborated on the development and updating of national guidelines for the management of rheumatoid arthritis, served as president of the Mexican Council of Rheumatology, and served as a federal advisor to the National Bioethics Commission. At the National Autonomous University of Mexico ( Universidad Panamericana ), she has been involved for many years in the education of undergraduate students and students in the master’s and doctoral programs in bioethics.
