A prestigious faculty

In his message, Dr. Santiago Garcia said, "the School of Health Sciences is a very young school; I saw its birth in 1996, and in a short time it has positioned itself as one of the most important medical schools in the country.

"There is an issue that is very typical of Pan American Health Sciences, it is this combination of theory and practice, and at the same time, it is always taking care of the patient under the concept of putting the person at the center. We recently saw with the pandemic issue in our graduates, and we also see it with the bioethics issues, how important it is not to leave aside the ethical progress", assured Dr. Garcia.

"It is curious how humanity has developed in the scientific part and it seems that in the ethical part it has stagnated, sometimes even regressing. Therefore, I believe that this integration achieved by the Faculty of Health Sciences, where the technical and scientific aspects are important but the human aspect continues to play a leading role and even more so with the social component, so typical of Health Sciences, is undoubtedly what has added to its prestige," he added.

Highlights

Dr. Obrador made a historical review, from the birth of the Faculty of Health Sciences in 1966 to date, and addressed the main stages of its growth, the birth of the careers.

"In 1996 the School of Medicine and the School of Nursing began, later in 2001- 2002 the first generation of Medicine and Nursing came out; in 2012 the School of Psychology opened and became the Faculty of Health Sciences, with three schools," he explained.

"Subsequently two other important events: in 2017 was the opening of the Clinical Psychology Unit and the Clinical Simulation Center; in 2019 we signed an agreement with Alianza Médica para la Salud (AMSA) and with that we currently have a diploma course to train leaders in health systems management. We hope that this will be the preamble to the opening of a postgraduate program in leadership for physicians and other healthcare professionals, a program directed under the tutelage of Dr. Enrique Ruedas," he said.

Tomás Obrador informed that: "this also has to do with the future of the faculty and its legacy", in this regard in his message he quoted and paraphrased Dr. Carlos Llano, founder of the Panamerican School of Medicine and Nursing. Carlos Llano, founder of the Panamericana, who at the time said: "(...) although the schools of Medicine and Nursing were born 10 years ago, they were not already in seed, but in full sprout, although underground, since their foundation -the quote ends-; and today, adapting that message I tell you that 25 years ago, the schools were already in full bloom since their birth".

He added that "the School of Health Sciences will move to Ciudad Panamericana in Bosque Real in the future, and there, together with its teaching hospital, it will continue to train future generations of doctors, nurses and psychologists.
