Mexico City, April 23, 2024.- Diana Ibarra and Mónica Villarreal, research professors from the Mexico City campus, as well as Susana Ochoa from the Guadalajara campus, were part of the delegation of the National Women's Civic Association, AC. Universidad PanamericanaMexico City campus, as well as Susana Ochoa from the Guadalajara campus, were part of the Delegation of the Asociación Nacional Cívica Femenina, AC. ANCIFEM, at the 68th Commission on the Status of Women (CSW68), in New York (CSW68), in New York, United States, an event held from March 14 to 25.

The ANCIFEM delegation was represented by 16 women from Mexico City, Guanajuato, Jalisco, Michoacán, Nuevo León and Puebla and the Pan American representatives attended as temporary delegates.

A forum to influence society

Within the framework of the CSW68, a press conference organized by ANCIFEM was held, attended by Xóchitl Córdova, national president of ANCIFEM; Blanca Gutiérrez, coordinator of the International Commission of ANCIFEM and Susana Ochoa, from the Interdisciplinary Group of Feminist Studies (GIEF) of the Institute of Humanities of the Pan-American University.

Xóchitl Córdova commented, "at this summit we will seek to influence through this agenda that is not only delivered to the presidential candidates, since, as women, through this meeting we can give concrete proposals on the needs that we are identifying throughout the country".

Situation of women in Mexico

Afterwards, Xóchitl Córdova, representing ANCIFEM, read a communiqué in which she addressed various issues related to the situation of women in Mexico. She stressed the importance of reevaluating the policies and projects of the Women's Institute instead of simply disappearing it, as well as the need for the government to listen to women with different perspectives and proposals.

She also highlighted the lack of adequate representation of women in the budget and the importance of establishing real indicators to evaluate policies aimed at women. She proposed budget redistribution for areas such as women's shelters and day care centers, in addition to the creation of a National Care System.

He criticized biases in the conceptual frameworks of gender and equality and called for government review and protection of autonomous bodies.

Blanca Gutiérrez addressed the issue of the budget allocated to gender equality and the eradication of violence and discrimination in Mexico, pointing out that most of this budget is concentrated in cash transfer and social assistance programs, without specific actions to reduce inequality between men and women.

Empowering women by ranking gender equality labor policies

At the same time, the following event was held at the United Nations Empowering women by ranking gender equality labor policies: a case in education institutionsThe event, held on March 20, was attended by Mexican and American academics, members of civil society and Mexican congresswomen and senators.

Three Panamericana researchers participated: Dr. Diana Ibarra, professor of Humanities at the Mexico City campus; Dr. Susana Ochoa, professor of Humanities at the Guadalajara campus; and Dr. Mónica Villarreal, Dean of the School of Pedagogy at the Mexico City campus.

The event was moderated by Dr. Ibarra, who stressed the importance of supporting the harmonization of motherhood with university life, not only for female professors, but also for female students, to remove the stigmas of motherhood, and to highlight the relational dimension that we human beings have and that it is essential to act as a community to achieve development.

 

Subsequently, Dr. Ochoa presented the Family Infrastructure Index as an economic and social proposal to measure the conditions that women experience when they enter the labor market, which can make enormous differences in mental health, personal development and productivity, as a touchstone that, seen from the perspective of Person-Centered Feminism, aims to measure this reality and refocus the incardination in a more harmonious way.

Dr. Villarreal presented her research on the Perception of Harmonization: the case of an Educational Institution.. She emphasized that harmonization is one of the central axes that the feminist agenda has recognized as necessary to address and deal with.

The aforementioned, in order to direct affirmative actions that generate public policies in favor of initiatives that help overcome obstacles and assist women in the promotion of their labor and economic rights and the achievement of a culture of peace.
