Intellectual property refers to creations that originate in the human intellect and grants the creator exclusive rights over their creation, patent, or model.

Intellectual Property

Aware of this topic’s importance, intellectual property registration began in 2018 at Universidad Panamericana’s Guadalajara campus, with the UP’s first application to the Mexican Institute of Industrial Property (Mexicano de la Propiedad Industrial, IMPI) on behalf of Centros Culturales de México, A.C. Just one year later, in 2019, 10 more were made, and in 2022, a total of 20 applications have been submitted.

Good Quality Management

During these years, 18 applications were submitted to the State Council for Science and Technology (Consejo Estatal de Ciencia y Tecnología, COECyTJAL) within the Intellectual Property Support Program (Programa de Apoyo a la Propiedad Intelectual, PROPIN), all of which were approved.

Two important aspects stand out in this achievement. First, the quality of the inventors, and second, the management capacity of the Guadalajara Campus’s Center for Applied Research and Technology (Centro de Investigación y Tecnología Aplicada, CITA) under the direction of Dr. Fidencio Tapia Rodríguez.

For this reason, we would like to acknowledge the following engineering researchers-inventors: Omar Jiménez, Luis Amezcua, Fidencio Tapia, Oscar Sánchez Barba, Orlando Montoya, Leonardo Valdivia, Friné Velázquez, Carolina Del Valle, Fabiola Cortés, Gabriela Durán, and Luis Alberto Rosa, as well as the students who participated in some of the projects.

Although the process for granting any legal industrial property status, patent, utility model, or industrial design is long, so far, two applications have been granted, and the others are in process.
