Panamericana Supports the Treatment of Children with Cancer through "My Green Commitment".

"The My Green Commitment project is a response and is our way of committing to the 2030 Global Agenda and the Sustainable Development Goals, by attending and involving our students to contribute, with small actions."

With the objective of generating a positive impact on the planet, the university community of the Universidad Panamericana Campus Guadalajara actively participated, as part of the Fundamentals of International Business course, which is taken by 100% of the students of the School of Business, in the My Green Commitment Project, offering their support through activities to influence society by example, so that they change their way of thinking and living, generating a sustainable future. For three consecutive years, green practices have been carried out throughout the semester, including collecting bottle caps to recycle them and obtain an economic income for Mi Gran Esperanza A.C. and be able to provide medical treatments and studies for children with cancer.

My Green Commitment promotes the practice of the 3Rs of Ecology: "educating with a life orientation and building a recycling-oriented society" and has as its objectives:

  • Ensure healthy living and promote wellbeing for all at all ages.
  • Make cities and human settlements inclusive, safe, resilient and sustainable.
  • Ensure sustainable consumption and production patterns:
  • Take urgent action to combat climate change and its effects.
  • Conserve and sustainably use the oceans, seas and marine resources for sustainable development.
  • Protect, restore and promote sustainable use of terrestrial ecosystems, sustainably manage forests, combat desertification, halt and reverse land degradation and halt biodiversity loss.

The collection of bottle caps was carried out on campus, with the support of the Protocol and Social Commitment departments, as well as administrative staff, teachers, students from other degree courses and the company VPSA Plásticos from the EMAR business group, which seeks to contribute to environmental protection through the purchase, sale, transformation and commercialisation of plastic materials. Thanks to their hard work during the semester, 4,288 kilos of recycled lids were collected, resulting in 25 treatments for children with cancer. In previous cycles, 644 kilos of caps were collected resulting in 5 treatments for children with cancer in the 2022-1 cycle and 3,185 kilos of caps resulting in 19 treatments in the 2021-2 cycle. In previous years, the collection has averaged 4,000 kilos.

"Small actions make big changes, we must all commit ourselves to life and the planet; and influence society through example, to generate a sustainable future...this event is an example of what can be achieved with will and social collaboration in the search for the common good", commented Irma Patricia de la Torre Santos from the Academic Secretariat of the School of Business. commented Irma Patricia de la Torre Santos from the Academic Secretariat of the Faculty of Business.

For Panamericana, the participation of university students in social actions that help their environment, highlighting the values of solidarity, social responsibility, empathy and generosity, is of utmost importance, which is why it is proud and grateful to all those involved who have been part of the practice of collecting bottle caps, which has been successfully carried out for three years in a row.
