Academic Integrity

Academic integrity refers to conduct that is honest, respectful, fair, and responsible, and consistent with institutional principles, in all academic activities related to the university.

 

The mission of the Universidad Panamericana “to educate individuals who seek the truth and are committed to it, promoting Christian humanism that contributes to building a better world.” Its vision is “to be a university recognized globally for its academic excellence, ethical education, and Christian outlook on life; to be a university whose graduates, guided by a sense of social responsibility, aspire to professional and personal fulfillment.”

The importance of academic integrity

The educational ideology of Universidad Panamericana is made up of the following principles: Christian vision of life, Search for truth with scientific rigor, Education centered on the person, Formation in freedom and responsibility, Work well done, with a sense of excellence and service, Responsibility and social commitment, and Respect for human dignity. These principles are also strengthened by the values of academic integrity contained in the Honor Code.

Why is it important to promote the values of academic integrity for Universidad Panamericana?

According to the International Center for Academic Integrity (2017), from the values of academic integrity emerge principles of behavior that enable academic communities to translate ideals into concrete actions.

At Universidad Panamericana, both professors and students have the duty to live these values, conducting ourselves ethically in all the activities we perform. We refer to avoiding actions such as plagiarism, cheating, dishonesty, cheating on exams, buying academic papers, among other improper practices.

What does it mean to be integral?

Choosing to be honest with oneself can be difficult; it involves being self-critical of oneself, having the sensitivity and firmness to accept one's faults and being mature enough to make amends.

Being a student of integrity means acting in accordance with values such as honesty, respect and fairness. This involves being honest in any academic work you do, respecting the intellectual property of others, and genuinely striving to learn. In other words, academic integrity is doing what you know is right, even if no one is watching.

Honor Code

The Honor Code of our university is an aspirational document that contains the institutional principles and values of academic integrity of Universidad Panamericana. As part of your university experience, you will be required to read and sign this Honor Code.

 

 

Attention to alleged breaches of academic integrity

 

As an institution committed to the integral formation of people and to the values of academic integrity, we have a "Protocol for Attention to Academic Integrity Violations". This protocol serves as a guide so that, within the different academic entities, schools and faculties, fair and equitable processes are carried out with respect for the dignity and privacy of the persons involved in alleged cases of academic dishonesty. The protocol acts as a complement to the university's General Regulations and details the process to be followed in the event of a possible case.

Recommendations for you to be authentic and upright in college

  1. Always seek to practice honesty.
  2. Learn to trust your teachers and classmates and also pass on that spirit of trust to others.
  3. Combat the normalization of dishonesty and promote the value of doing things in an original way among your peers.
  4. Knows the university's academic integrity policies.
  5. Bring the Honor Code to life every day of your life.
  1. Read, analyze and follow the rules of each class.
  2. Find out what you need to know to learn to be whole.
  3. Always quote other people's ideas, proposals, sentences, phrases, methodologies, etc. in an appropriate manner.
  4. Make your work and assignments transparent; you can show the teacher the steps you followed to complete an activity or project.
  5. Take responsibility for your actions and be aware of the possible consequences.
