André Laks holds a Ph.D. in Classical Literature from the University of Lille and a Ph.D. in Philosophy from the Sorbonne (
). He was a Professor of Ancient Philosophy at the University of Lille (1989–1991) and at the University of Paris-Diderot (
, 1994–2007); at Princeton University (1991–1994); at the Sorbonne University (
, 2007–2012); and at Universidad Panamericana in Mexico City since 2012 (formerly SNI Level 3).
His main areas of research include the origins of philosophy in Greece, Plato and Aristotle (
), doxography, the modern reception of ancient philosophy, and the history of hermeneutics.
