Aguascalientes, Aguascalientes, December 1, 2025.— The Universidad Panamericana, in collaboration with the National Copyright Institute (INDAUTOR), held an event at its Aguascalientes campus the conference Importance of Copyright and Licensing.
This event brought together researchers, students, and officials from the public and private sectors to discuss the value of creativity, innovation, and intellectual property protection as essential elements for social and economic development.
Promoting legal protection for progress
The event was led by Antonio de los Reyes, Ph.D., dean of the Aguascalientes campus, who opened the conference. During his remarks, Antonio de los Reyes, Ph.D., emphasized that “innovation is not just a concept, but a collective responsibility that turns knowledge into a driver of progress”.

Also in attendance was Alberto Arenas Badillo, Director of Copyright at INDAUTOR, who noted that “copyright ensures that every work or innovation is recognized and protected for the benefit of its creator and society”.

Also participating in the ceremony were Dr. Sergio Velázquez Rodríguez, Vice President for Research; Dr. Juan Alberto González Piñón, Corporate Director of Innovation and Technology Transfer; Dr. Pedro Rodrigo Cruz, Director of Research at the Aguascalientes Campus; and Dr. José Manuel Magaña Rufino, Director of the Master’s Program in Industrial Property, Copyright, and New Technologies.
Their presence underscored the event’s institutional significance and both organizations’ commitment to training creators and researchers.
In turn, Dr. Sergio Velázquez Rodríguez emphasized that Universidad Panamericana intellectual property as a pillar of its institutional development, a means for scientific, artistic, and technological research to translate into innovation with real impact”.

Presentation of the UP's Technology Portfolio
As part of the program, the Universidad Panamericana the latest developments in its technology portfolio, which consists of 45 intellectual property assets and reflects the university community’s ongoing efforts to drive impactful innovation.

Dr. Juan Alberto González Piñón emphasized that Universidad Panamericana intellectual property management as a strategic process that transforms the creativity of our researchers and students into real solutions for society”.
In addition, the conference featured two workshops designed to enhance participants’ knowledge and skills in the areas of copyright and licensing:
- Protection of Artistic and Literary Works
The session was led by Alberto Arenas Badillo, who explained that copyright protects creative works from the moment they are created, providing legal certainty, official recognition, and support in the event of disputes.
- Copyright and Licensing
Presented by Dr. José Manuel Magaña Rufino, this workshop addressed the limits of copyright and the licensing mechanisms that allow creators to exploit their works without relinquishing ownership. It also highlighted the importance of international protection and adaptation in the face of the challenges posed by digital creation.
At the close of the event, Dr. Pedro Rodrigo Cruz stated: “The Universidad Panamericana its commitment to training researchers and creators capable of transforming their ideas into solutions with real impact, strengthening its role as a leader in promoting creativity and innovation in Mexican higher education.”
