El Club de Impacto

El Club de Impacto (Impact Club) was the first production of an audiovisual program in video format to broadcast on public television created by MediaLab for Capital21.

This program aimed to bring young people closer to those who have made a positive impact on society. Some featured guests include Danielle Feinberg, lighting director at Pixar; Diego Stommel, drummer of Allison and head of Zoe Water; Alvaro Gordoa, image consultant; and the host Lety Sahagun, amongst many others.

The recording, production, and post-production of the show were carried out by students from our Communications program at the MediaLab facilities for a 24-episode season. The second season is currently in pre-production.

Central de Libros

With Central de Libros, Communication students, as well as MediaLab participants, helped in the creation of a YouTube channel of one of the world's largest publishers, presenting snack content about books, editions, and releases of such publishing group.

From interviews with authors such as Luisito Comunica and Joel Dicker to participating as correspondents for the International Book Fair in Guadalajara, this project gave students the opportunity to gain experience in production, hosting, edition and post-production. In addition, participants were given creative freedom to develop their products.

Podcasts and Radio

The first media launched in our laboratories was RadioUP, for over 13 years, we have had a digital radio station that broadcasts 24 hours a day, 7 days a week without interruption.

Today we have products on Spotify, Apple Podcast, and Google Podcast. Any Communication or University student can have a radio show or podcast from the third semester onwards.

Currently, MediaLab produces over 15 of its own podcasts, two for media outlets outside the university, as well as 8 live radio shows.

Audiovisual Production

In MediaLab we open a call every semester for those who want to have an audiovisual product, whether for digital media, television, or film.

We have produced everything. One of the first products was Sin Tanto Rollo, a series of informative videos with an irreverent perspective. We also created Corte y Queda to present the best information about the films and series of interest, as well as a weekly recommendation.

If you want to learn more about our video productions, we invite you to watch our YouTube channel.

Journalism and Entertainment

The content written by our students is available on the following site: medialab.up.edu.mx, open for the world to read. MediaLab has an average of 60,000 unique users per month with visits from Mexico, with 20% of international page views, visiting mainly from the United States, Argentina, Colombia, and Spain.

All members of our laboratory are required to spend at least one semester in the newsroom area in order to improve their research and interviewing skills, as well as their analytical and interpretative skills.

Design and Post-Production

Design is relevant and necessary in any communication field for the proper transmission of ideas; which is why a fundamental part of our laboratory is based on learning skills that allow us to express the ideas we develop in a visual format.

Graphic communication is crucial, given the new challenges the world faces, so MediaLab participants improve their skills in illustration, image editing, composition, and abstraction of concepts to create infographics, logos, posters, and branding of audiovisual products.

Research

Communicologists have an obligation to society: to report adequately and objectively what is happening in the world, which is why, in addition to training our students in the best journalistic practices, we also develop a research area focusing its efforts on two specific areas: thematic research, as well as the deep-end look of specific topics for their communication.

Thus, MediaLab investigates the impact of digital phenomena such as hyperconnectivity, formats used by Generation Z to stay informed, and the existing relationships between digital culture and tangible reality.

Social Media

With the digitalization and democratization of the internet came new platforms for expression: social media. Although most of our students are skilled in the use of social media for personal use, our aim is to equip them with sufficient knowledge and experience for professional use.

From Facebook as a traffic generator to experimenting with TikTok and its anti-marketing model, the students manage eight social networks that MediaLab has with the guidance of their coordinators.
