10th UP Business Breakfast: connecting academia and the labor sector

Mexico City, February 13, 2025.— On February 6, the Universidad Panamericana held the tenth edition of the Business Networking Breakfast, an event organized by Career Services at the Universidad Panamericana, which brought together human resources executives from 35 leading companies in Mexico with deans and directors of schools, colleges, and graduate programs at the Panamericana. 

This event, held at the Mexico City campus’s Mixcoac location, was attended by 110 participants, who took part in a strategic and a discussion on labor market trends and opportunities for collaboration between the university and the business sector.

Strengthening the Links Between Education and the Labor Market

The event was opened by the Dr. Santiago García Álvarez, rector of the Mexico City campus, who emphasized the importance of strengthening collaboration between academia and businesses to ensure that students’ professional training is aligned with the needs of the job market.

Next, the Ana Cecilia González Fernández, B.A., manager of Career Services, stated: “We are gathered here today to explore new opportunities for collaboration, learning, and growth, but above all, to advance the future of our students and society as a whole.

He also emphasized that “academic training must go hand in hand with the realities of the job market, which is why these types of partnerships are crucial for training competent, creative professionals who are prepared to face the challenges the future holds.”

The Pan-American Highway in Rankings

Subsequently, the Eng. Carlos Mateos, institutional coordinator of Rankings, gave a talk on the importance of university , particularly the QS World University Rankings, in which the National Autonomous University of Mexico ( Universidad Panamericana ) has established itself as one of Mexico’s most prestigious educational institutions.

During the session, attendees learned about the indicators that determine universities’ global rankings and their impact on how corporate leaders perceive university talent.

Networking Between Businesses and Universities

Among the companies that sent representatives to the event were AkyaArteriaAMIBMexican Stock Exchange, Chevez Ruiz Zamarripa, EY, FordGrupo Salinas, MastercardPepsiCoSantander Mexico and Unilever, among others.

The executives of these companies, along with representatives from the Universidad Panamericana, established agreements and partnerships that will help strengthen students’ transition into the workforce, identify current labor market needs, and create employment opportunities for students and alumni.
