Mexico City, February 17, 2022.—Ciudad Panamericana held the inauguration of Plaza Pedro Casciaro, named in honor of the founder of Opus Dei in Mexico and the driving force behind the founding of the Universidad Panamericana , and IPADE.
The event brought together Dr. Fernanda Lergo Bay, President of the UP-IPADE system; Dr. José Antonio Lozano, Chair of the UP-IPADE Governing Board; Dr. Santiago García Álvarez, Dean of the Mexico City Campus; Father Francisco Ugarte Corcuera; and Eneko Belausteguigoitia Arocena, founder of IPADE and a member of the first AD-2 cohort, among other guests.
The UP as the Seed of Development
When Dr. Lozano took the floor, he explained that the trees planted in the newly inaugurated plaza symbolize the very essence of universities: “Universities are seeds that foster development, help us find our direction, and shape our training and education”.
He also added that “ ”—the name given to the square—will ensure that all generations remember Casciaro’s role: “When students continue to pass through this plaza in years to come, they will remember the figure that Don Pedro was—a very important figure in the history not only of the Obra in Mexico, but also of universidad Panamericana itself and of IPADE”.
Tribute to Eneko Belausteguigoitia, Engineer
The Rector General then noted that the event, in addition to being a tribute to Don Pedro, was also an expression of gratitude to Eneko Belausteguigoitia, who served as a donor for the construction of Ciudad Panamericana. It was he, in particular, who—in exchange for his support—asked that Father Casciaro be honored with a commemorative plaque.
“It is my voice speaking, but it is the Universidad Panamericana and IPADE who thank you for your support of this incredibly bold dream (which is Ciudad Panamericana)”, he said.
Dr. Llergo also explained that the engineer’s relationship with the Universidad Panamericana has a long and rich history: “Few people like you, Engineer, can say that they have been a founder, student, and professor at IPADE since its inception and, as a result, have been closely involved in every step that IPADE and the Panamericana have taken”.
