The Universidad Panamericana a Bachelor's Degree in Actuarial Science, training leaders in risk management

Mexico City, October 20, 2025.–The Universidad Panamericana officially Universidad Panamericana its new Bachelor’s Degree in Actuarial Science, a cutting-edge academic program designed to train professionals capable of analyzing, modeling, and managing risks in key sectors such as finance, insurance, pensions, and consulting.

During the presentation,Dr. Santiago García Álvarez, rector of the Mexico City campus, emphasized that this degree program reinforces the University’s commitment to advancing science and technology, particularly in the field of applied mathematics.

“It is essential to make decisions that build on our strengths while adapting to current challenges such as artificial intelligence and data science. At the Universidad Panamericana, we maintain a balance between technical training and a solid ethical and humanistic foundation,”, he said.

A response to market demand

According toProfessor Juan Manuel Lozano Vieyra, director of the Applied Mathematics and Actuarial Science programs, the growing complexity of economic and social scenarios has increased the demand for actuaries with quantitative skills, strategic vision, and a strong sense of ethics.

“The Universidad Panamericana this need with a program that combines academic excellence, a Christian identity, and a deep sense of social responsibility,”, he said.

Valeria Montesinos Chica, the program director, emphasized that the curriculum is built on four pillars that combine technical rigor with a well-rounded education:

  • Comprehensive approach: combines advanced mathematics, statistics, economics, programming, and risk analysis with a liberal arts education.
  • Industry connections: Through partnerships with leaders in the insurance, banking, and technology sectors, students gain access to professional experiences right from the classroom.
  • Ethics and Leadership: Technical training is complemented by values that promote a positive impact on society.
  • International reach: prepares students to earn global certifications and compete in international markets.

Duration, locations, and degree options

The bachelor's degree program lastsfour years (eight semesters), will begin inAugust 2026, and will be offered exclusively at theMexico City campus (Mixcoac location).

In addition, it offers three flexible degree options: a thesis, a research paper, or international certifications (Society of Actuaries, Casualty Actuarial Society, or Chartered Financial Analyst).

Actuarial Science with a Purpose: Building Mexico's Future

As part of the event, a panel discussion was held Actuarial Science with a Purpose: Building Mexico’s Future, which was moderated by Vicente Amador, Director of Corporate Communications at UP-IPADE.

The panelists included Mauricio Arredondo Fernández Cano, M.A., current president of the National Association of Actuaries; Jorge Luis Reyes García, M.A., director of environmental risk at Grupo Financiero Banorte; José Arturo Blancas Espejo, Act., vice president of INEGI’s National Demographic and Social Information Subsystem ; and Mikaël Tordjman, MBA, CEO of AXA Partners Mexico.

When he took the floor, Mikaël Tordjman explained that actuaries calculate risks and premiums in the insurance industry using historical and predictive data, as well as artificial intelligence. He emphasized the need to collaborate with departments such as finance to avoid errors.

For his part, Arturo Blancas defined an actuary as a professional who uses mathematical models to make evidence-based decisions in various fields. He noted that there are very few actuaries in Mexico and emphasized the importance of ethics in their training.

Meanwhile, Jorge Reyes García explained how he applies actuarial science to climate risks, translating complex environmental phenomena into models for corporate decision-making.

Mauricio Arredondo welcomed the new degree program and noted the profession’s expansion beyond insurance into areas such as public policy. He emphasized the critical need for actuaries to develop soft skills, such as communication, to explain their models and their impact, as well as to act ethically.

The panel concluded that actuarial science is a versatile and growing profession that requires both technical rigor and an understanding of human nature, as well as communication skills and a strong ethical commitment.
