Zapopan, Jalisco; February 8, 2023.- The Law School of the Universidad Panamericana campus Guadalajara held the 9th Conference on International Arbitration and the United Nations Convention on Contracts for the International Sale of Goods (CISG).
International Arbitration
This conference aims to address the latest challenges arising in international transactions and dispute resolution. It will cover a wide range of topics, including the complex issue of aggregation of claims in international arbitration, the unclear limits of parties' information obligations in international contracts, and the current challenges posed by cybersecurity and artificial intelligence.
For her part, Dean of the School of Law, Dr. Isabel Alvarez shared the following reflection: "As technology continues to shape and redefine the way we do business, it is essential that we remain vigilant and proactive in protecting the integrity and confidentiality of arbitration proceedings."
Format
The 9th Conference was held in a hybrid format, with some speakers and attendees participating in person at the Panamericana facilities, while others watched the event online via ZOOM .
Participants
This event was attended by distinguished speakers from countries such as Germany, Australia, Brazil, Canada, Colombia, Spain, United States, Italy, Dominican Republic and Mexico. Among these distinguished speakers were: Dr. Ingeborg Schwenzer; Professor Diana Correa; Renato Treves; Elsa Ortega; Ulyana Bardyn; Gabriela Cosío; Dr. Francesco Mazzota; David Tebel; Lisa Spagnolo; Sophia Yang; Luísa Quintão; Giulia Vallar; Joshua Karton; Marcos Peña; Mr. Orlando Cabrera and Dr. Edgardo Muñoz .
Panels
The conference was divided into three panels, each addressed by the above-mentioned specialists. The first panel discussed the addition of claims to a pending arbitration and consolidation of arbitral proceedings. The second panel discussed information duties in international contracts and their effect on remedies under the CISG and UNIDROIT PICC. And the third concluded with the topic of Artificial Intelligence and Internet Security in international contracts and arbitration.
Closing
At the end of the panel stage, there was a question and answer section, from which some conclusions were drawn on the topics mentioned above.
