CODICIS Project

This effort is part of Pan American's active participation in the CODICIS Project. CODICIS ProjectProject, financed by the European Union and the Erasmus + Program.

The CODICIS Project, initiated in January 2021, was a collaboration between Universidad Panamericana, the BUAP of Puebla, and two other universities in Bolivia and two in Peru. Its objective was to investigate the situation of bibliographic, heritage and archival collections in Mexico and Latin America in general. This research revealed the precariousness of many of these collections, as well as the need to train specialized personnel for their care.

In response to this situation, CODICIS sought to train specialized personnel and provide adequate equipment to strengthen Latin American archives and libraries. Among the program's outstanding achievements is the construction and equipping of the Bibliographic Collection Conservation Laboratory at Universidad Panamericana.

In addition, the project has trained 30 people in specialized topics related to the conservation and preservation of old collections, has carried out the conservation, preservation, digitalization and dissemination of the institution's old bibliographic collection, and has established agreements and arrangements for the digitalization and preservation of collections with other institutions, thus contributing to the preservation of the bibliographic heritage at the regional level.
