Minister of the SCJN
During his presentation, Justice Gutiérrez Ortiz Mena highlighted the importance of democracies having constitutional courts with full autonomy. He also pointed out that since the judiciary is not constitutionally endowed with either public force or the purse, the only thing it can count on to enforce its resolutions is their impartiality and the independence and honorability of its members.

The Minister also emphasized the strong tradition of compliance with Supreme Court rulings in Mexico, even though in some cases they may be unpopular, since rulings must be issued in accordance with the Constitution and with unconditional respect for human rights.
The students listened attentively and nodded in agreement to each of the points of the presentation. At the end of the lecture, there was a space for questions and comments from the audience.

The Universidad Panamericana thanks Minister Gutiérrez Ortiz Mena for sharing his knowledge and experience with our academic community and invites him to continue collaborating with this university.
