Universidad Panamericana was recognized with third place in Latin America in the Google LATAM Higher Education AI & Education Fellowship, further consolidating its leadership in educational innovation and the use of artificial intelligence in higher education.
The recognition was presented during the closing ceremony held at Google's headquarters in Mountain View, California, where leading Latin America universities showcased their most innovative projects.
SyllabUP: Artificial Intelligence to ensure academic quality
The award-winning project, SyllabUP: The Alignment Engine, is an AI-powered education ecosystemdeveloped by the Institutional Center for Educational Innovation ( CIIE) in collaboration with the Phygital Lab.
SyllabUP addresses the challenge of the “silent gap” in education by automatically ensuring that the content established in the institutional syllabus is accuratelly reflected in faculty teaching materials and in students’ evidence of learning.
Using tools such as Google Gems, the platform makes it possible to:
- Automatically validate academic alignment
- Audit educational content
- Facilitate international accreditation processes
- Ensure educational quality standards
This development positions Universidad Panamericana as a leader in digital transformation in education and AI-powered academic quality assurance.
A multidisciplinary team driving educational innovation
The project was developed by an interdisciplinary team of specialists in education, technology, and innovation:
- Dr. María Teresa Nicolás Gavilán, Director of the CIIE
- Mtra. Daniela Olea Ibarra, Academic Secretary of the CIIE
- Dr. Alejandro Ordóñez Torres, Director of the Phygital Lab
- Mtro. Carlos Alberto Jaimes, Senior Engineer at Phygital Lab and lead of technical architect.

During the summit, experts from Google for Education and representatives from Latin American universities discussed the future of artificial intelligence in education, highlighting three strategic priorities:

- Human Connection: using technology to reduce administrative workloads and strengthen faculty-student relationships
- Regional Innovation: Latin America's leadership in adopting AI-powered educational solutions
