June 16, 2023.- The Universidad Panamericana Academic Senate held this year under the theme "Dialogue with contemporary culture Dialogue with contemporary culture on June 5, 6, 7, 12 and 15 at the Aguascalientes, Mexico City and Guadalajara campuses of this institution.

Dialogue with contemporary culture

During each cloister, a series of lectures and panels were given on the central themes of the event. One of the first was given by Dr. Ricardo Piñero, Professor of Aesthetics and Theory of the Arts at the University of Navarra, who offered a creative dialogue on the keys to understanding contemporary culture .

Dr. Virginia Aspe, researcher at the Faculty of Philosophy, Mexico City campus, level III of the National System of Researchers, presented the topic Passionately loving the world. In this conference, Dr. Aspe spoke about the importance of the work of each Panamerican member, and made a call to do our work with love and giving it the importance it deserves.

Participation of the Rector General

Dr. Fernanda Llergo Bay, Rector General of the UP-IPADE system, shared a message for all collaborators, in which she emphasized that "dialogue must be open to truth and freedom, since it is an art that implies knowing how to communicate a message clearly, presenting logical arguments and establishing an emotional connection".

"In the university setting, dialogue is an engine of learning that allows us to challenge preconceived ideas, seek new solutions and collaboratively reach the truth," said Dr. Llergo.

He also added that "we are contemporaries of all these social phenomena that not only influence us, but constantly challenge us. We have the opportunity to decide our role: as spectators or as protagonists".

During his speech, he also pointed out that "truth, because it belongs to everyone, opens us up to others, while opinion, because it is our own, closes us in on ourselves. Finally, he emphasized the importance of putting values first in our environment: "freedom, truth, dialogue, precious values, not of the UP's heraldry, nor of its increasingly numerous and large buildings. These are values that await you and me to be able to dialogue with our contemporary culture, and truly be a University with a high human and social impact".

Feminism, Christian identity and dialogue

Also noteworthy was the panel discussion Feminism, Christian Identity and Dialoguemoderated by Ana Isabel Sarmiento, secretary general of the UP-IPADE system.

The guest panelists were Dr. Diana Ibarra, Dr. Susana Ochoa, Dr. Fernanda Crespo and Mtro. Vicente Amador, who spoke about a new feminism that works to overcome all forms of discrimination, violence and exploitation, in addition to reflecting on the need to engage in deep conversations on this same topic, with a Christian sense, seeking to generate positive change in society.

Closing of the event

Afterwards, Dr. José Antonio Lozano, President of the Board of Governors of Universidad Panamericana and IPADE, gave a lecture on the following topics The University of the Future: NetworkingHe spoke about the historical moment in which the world finds itself, the changes that are occurring on a psychological and social level, as well as the characteristics of the new generation. To close the event, a report was presented by the Rector of each campus.

The Cloister

The 2023 faculty emphasized the importance of cultivating critical thinking in a context of hyper-information, as well as the need to actively listen and practice empathy.

Emphasis was also placed on actions and attitudes that promote effective dialogue, such as starting with what is shared, expressing a willingness to dialogue, and expressing opinions with respect and sincerity, among other aspects.

Each event was attended by more than a thousand distinguished members of the academic faculty, directors and members of the university community.
