Pollinator Garden

The main objective of this project is to create an adequate space to promote bee pollination, as well as food and reproduction of butterflies and other beneficial insects for the ecosystem, such as the catarina. Pollinator gardens are natural spaces that help the survival of both plants and animals, creating a safe habitat for butterflies, hummingbirds, bees, among other organisms. To make this initiative possible, the Government of Zapopan and the Directorate of Parks and Gardens donated 500 plants to the Panamericana.

Among these are: African Lilies, Perennial Daisies, Maria Bonita, Californian Daisies, Gazanias, Lantanas and Asclepias. The latter is the food plant for butterflies,

"We hope that students can visit the garden to see the species that are approaching and try to encourage them to care for nature, plants and above all to value these species," said Alma Montes, coordinator of the event.

The creation of this garden would not be possible without the active participation of the student community. Therefore, 38 students participated in the creation of the space, who were divided into different shifts to work on the implementation and care of the Pollinator Garden. In addition, they had the support of the university's gardening team, who prepared the area previously and were there during the event advising, teaching and supporting the students.

I think it is a very cool activity and a very enriching initiative to have more green spaces in our university. Daniel Sosa, architecture student and participant in the project, commented.

Sustainable commitment

The commitment of Universidad Panamericana to care for the environment is evident through various actions, such as annual ecological campaigns that seek to raise awareness of the importance of protecting the natural environment. These campaigns include activities such as reforestations, ecological talks and the adoption of trees and ornamental plants, thus contributing to the production of oxygen in the Guadalajara Metropolitan Zone.

The pollinator garden is located behind the Aula Magna, next to the Ermita.
