Character education, a new school culture

In this documentary he makes an in-depth review of the importance of the subject and the reality of six high schools located in the metropolitan area of Guadalajara, and their first experiences in promoting a character education project in their school community.

The film shows how these educational institutions have managed to implement an innovative approach to education, focused on the integral formation of students, in which the development of social, emotional and ethical skills is promoted.

"Educating character, a new school culture" is a work that invites reflection on the role of education in the formation of committed and conscious citizens, and shows that it is possible to transform the reality of our schools through a pedagogical approach that takes into account the integral development of students.

Interview with Roberto Girault

In an interview with the play's director, Roberto Girault, he commented the following:

How was the process to join the Educaracter project?

A: Dr. Daniela Salgado (Director of the School of Pedagogy and Psychology at Panamericana Guadalajara) contacted me. Daniela Salgado (Director of the School of Pedagogy and Psychology at Panamericana Guadalajara) she told me that they needed to make a documentary to promote and publicize what they were doing in the character education project in schools, and I was a little resistant at first, but she sent me the notes, He showed me what they were doing, I saw that it was a project with a scope that was not local or institutional to the university itself but that it had an international scope and I saw above all that there was a very genuine need to promote and publicize what was being done, what they wanted to do and the benefits that this project brought. I think that was what convinced me, I saw that there was a real need to show the real benefits that this project of educating character brings and that they are very good, very necessary and very important benefits for the young generations.

How long ago did you start this project?

A: More or less a year ago were the first contacts and scopes, I didn't really join until a little before last summer, and we made a deal until August, August was all for production and we came to shoot in September for the schools and the interviews, that was 2 weeks, then I did interviews with the people from Spain with a crew that was hired there in Spain and that was another week (...) total principal photography finished in more or less 4 weeks - 1 month and then it was about 5 months of postproduction. Everything was done in Guadalajara, with local production, and I'm very happy with all the people I worked with and all the crew I got.

What did it leave you personally to make this documentary?

R: I think the first thing it left me with was responsibility and a spur to understand that when you live a profession with passion, it completely changes the perspective of living that profession and also changes the influence you have doing it in others, I was very impressed filming in schools, filming with families, filming schools with scarce resources, schools that have all kinds of problems and seeing people so committed to what they are doing(....) so I believe that we can turn our entire profession into a vocation of service, so it was a great lesson for me to see that, and then to see how that passion that they already have innate for what they do was encouraged and focused thanks to what they brought in the "Educarácter" project (....).) it also made me responsible for saying that we have to work together more, we have to help each other more (...) we have to enter a little more to the essential part of man, society and be able to transmit it, share it, I think that was what left me the most, a sense of responsibility and a very important lesson of being passionate about what you do (...).

What message would you give to the school of pedagogy and psychology, for organizing the forum and everything related to it?

R: Congratulations for several reasons, for the project they have in hand which is very important, for the vision of knowing how to land this project and how to project it, as well as for having delivered it, congratulations for the courage because this type of thing takes work, it takes a lot of time, there is a lot of wear and tear behind it, we see the results, but behind it there are several sleepless nights, a lot of nerves (...) it takes courage and perseverance as well as not losing hope and having a clear vision of where they are going and I think Daniela and all her team managed to carry it out.) it takes courage and perseverance as well as not losing hope and having a clear vision of where they are going and I believe that Daniela and all her team managed to carry it out and apart from the fact that it turned out very well, the first thing is to congratulate and then thank them for what they are doing, bringing "Educarácter" to the schools or to public education (...).) the transcendence is uncountable, unimaginable because they are helping future generations and we do not know how these seeds that are being formed will pay off and what fruit they will bear tomorrow, but we do know that they have sown very important seeds, you can see it in the happiness of the people, I was in the schools, I saw clean, organized schools, (...) that is thanks to this training, so I am very grateful, the students, the families of these students, society and in the end Mexico as a whole, so thank you very much. I was saying yesterday that we are only seeing the tip of the iceberg of the need and the potential, I think it is true that there is a great need (...) to encourage them to continue projecting the future of the country, and to encourage them to continue with their work.) to encourage them to continue projecting to more schools, to more educational centers, to make more synergy and to continue studying more to see new ways, this is a pilot project, but that they realize that it is worthwhile, that it does work and that it is necessary and that they should promote it and go to more schools, cities, to promote this since it is very important and to continue training trainers.

What does the Panamericana represent for you?

A: The Universidad Panamericana de Guadalajara is a place to which I always return with great pleasure and affection, since I was a student they have treated me very well, they have always had the doors open and have given me a lot of love and I can only be very happy and grateful to this university, I was not fortunate to study here, but I feel good because every time I come back they turn to me, I just hope to keep coming back, making synergy and to continue supporting us together, because in the end we have the same mission and I love this university and I am very grateful to it.
