Feature Story

Fourth-semester student Diana Salcedo won first place for her paper titled“Fangirls: Another Joke of the Patriarchal System.”

“I addressed a topic that I’m very passionate about; as a fangirl who belongs to several fan groups for different artists, I’ve realized that female fans aren’t treated the same way as male fans. While male soccer fans are called passionate, women are labeled as crazy, she said.

Regarding the recognition, Diana says it was a deeply rewarding experience, as it is the first article she has written since starting her degree program.“I am also very grateful that the university offers these kinds of opportunities and events where new journalistic talent can be discovered—talent that I believe is abundant among UP students.”
