Panamericana's Sixth Report as a Socially Responsible Company: Towards a Sustainable Operation

Bearing in mind the right balance between the social, economic and environmental effects of all human actions, La Universidad Panamericana reaffirms for the sixth year its commitment as a Socially Responsible Company, through the delivery of the internal report of a sustainable operation of the Guadalajara Campus.

ZAPOPAN, Jalisco; November 04, 2022.- This year with the endorsement of the UI Green Metric recognition granted by the University of Indonesia, our beloved UP reaffirms its commitment to become an increasingly sustainable institution.

In addition, for the sixth consecutive year, our rector received from the Operations area the annual report on the achievements obtained in the constant practice of measures to contribute to the care of the environment, and also to contribute to the Corporate Social Responsibility program.

This report concentrates all the practices that contribute in a balanced manner to the social, economic and environmental spheres, in congruence with the University's institutional philosophy.

Similar to the report that preceded this year's report, the document is divided into the following three main areas: quality of life in the company, business ethics, and care for the environment. It also includes activities that help to improve the working and family conditions of the operations personnel, with the aim of providing them with an optimal working environment inside and outside the University.

Through this means of communication, it is intended that all members of the university community know and become actively involved in all the actions that have been implemented for the benefit of the environment, the social sphere and with the relevant care of their economic impacts.

Some of the practices that were successfully carried out were:

  • Job security as a requirement for suppliers to enter the campus
  • Assignment of uniforms to operations personnel
  • Training sessions for Operations personnel
  • Efficient lamps with low mercury content
  • 100% smoke-free campus
  • Adaptation of infrastructure and operational measures to mitigate the spread of respiratory diseases on campus.
  • Facilities that encourage the use of non-motorized means of transport
  • Preferential spaces for environmentally friendly vehicles
  • Efficient conservation of green areas in the campus and its surroundings.
  • Environmentally friendly air conditioning and refrigeration equipment
  • Operational measures for energy efficiency in air-conditioning systems
  • Reduction of thermal load on buildings and walkways
  • Remote monitoring of high energy demanding electromechanical systems
  • High efficiency bathroom accessories
  • Operational measures for efficient use of water inside and outside buildings
  • Design of gardens with less environmental impact
  • Reforestation on campus
  • Responsible rainwater management
  • Drinking water offer to discourage the use of PET bottles
  • Preferential purchase of environmentally friendly products
  • Regulation of disposables in food and snack centers
  • Garbage separation
  • Responsible management of campus forestry waste
  • Reuse and recycling of construction and remodeling wastes
  • Management groups for the sustainable development of the campus: Space Committee, Green Metrics Committee and MRS (Sustainable Materials and Resources) management team.
  • Technical training for operations personnel
  • Awareness of the university community

It is also worth mentioning those practices that are confirmed for the end of the year and that, due to their nature, must wait to be executed in that time frame:

  • Operations Christmas event
  • Christmas raffle of useful items for the home
  • Christmas basket gift
  • Placement of Christmas decorations on campus
  • Renewal of electromechanical equipment with high energy consumption

Once again, the practices mentioned here joined the initiatives of the Aguascalientes and Mexico City campuses to participate for the third year in the international recognition of sustainable universities known as UI Green Metric.

Once again, Panamericana is grateful for the great work done by the areas involved to implement these actions, which undoubtedly contribute to the pursuit of a better world.

We invite the entire university community to join us in this noble mission and promote the culture of sustainable development on and off campus.
