Monday, April 17, 2023.- Alumni, Alumni and professors of the Universidad Panamericana Guadalajara Campus were part of the creation of the video game 9 Years of Shadows that since March 27th, was released through the Steam platform for its PC version and will soon be available for Nintendo Switch.
Videogame 9 Years of Shadows
The video game 9 Years of Shadows tells the story of Europa, a 20-year-old girl whose parents have died due to a curse that devours color and embitters people's hearts. Now she has to face a difficult mission: to lift the curse that has been tormenting people and restore peace. On his journey he will learn that he must open his heart to overcome the pain of his past.
The idea was born when the director of the videogame, Miguel Hasson, wrote the story for a screenwriting class while he was a student of Communication and Audiovisual Creationwhich was originally intended to be a short film.
From that moment on, the university community believed in his idea and little by little students and professors from different careers joined the creative company, Halberd Studios. Specifically, 18 members of Panamericana were involved.
It is worth mentioning that in 2021 9YOS won the audio excellence award at the Latinx Game Awards 2021. One of the most important elements of this videogame is the music, since the soundtrack of this project is in charge of the legendary composers Michiru Yamane and Manami Matsumae, from Castlevania and Mega Man respectively.
Maya Ruiz, alumni of the Communication and Audiovisual Creation career, was the scriptwriter of the videogame and was in charge of the development of the characters, dialogues, cinematics and cutscenes.
"I started alone, under Miguel's direction. Then we created a narrative team, Andrea Castillejo, Brenda Ramirez, Raúl Aceves and myself. They helped me correct and polish the dialogue and the story in general. Dave Wightman from Reclamation Games helped us translate into English," he said.
For Maya, having been part of the creation of the video game leaves her with great satisfaction, stating that "9 Years of Shadows was my first creative project that required a high level of professional demand. Working on the script I realized that it really is what I am most passionate about, but it is a very difficult job, which requires a lot of patience, dedication and confidence in oneself and in the team. It is the project I am most fond of".
