ENGINEERING FACULTY ALUMNI ENCOURAGE STUDENTS TO SEEK OPPORTUNITIES ABROAD

ZAPOPAN, Jalisco; November 3, 2021.

"I consider that the impact that Universidad Panamericana has had on me is due more than anything else to the professors I had, I think we can all think of a professor who has not inspired us much, and the inspiration comes mainly from the passion they share with us", Daniel Gaspar, Civil Engineering Alumni.

Daniel Gaspar, Civil Engineering Alumni at Universidad Panamericana, Campus Guadalajara, is now a resident of Berkeley, California. Gaspar is dedicated to structural engineering, a branch of civil engineering, where he performs evaluations of existing buildings on the West Coast of the United States, especially in hospitals and buildings for clients specializing in technologies such as Google, Apple and others.

On the challenges of working abroad, the alumnus comments that the most difficult ones are immigration issues, as many companies do not see much incentive to take a risk with someone coming from abroad, as well as the whole issue of visas, but he encourages people to try and stand out from the crowd and to make themselves known abroad.

"One of the questions I get asked by students who want to go there is, 'Hey, do we have the level to defend ourselves over there,' and the answer is definitely yes, I feel we have all the weapons to be there with people who are in the highest level programmes in the world (...) I am very grateful for the education I received here," said Daniel.

Gaspar recommends future civil engineers to get involved in talks with experts or join student groups from the first semesters, even earlier if possible, and that the passion for their career is something that matters a lot, something that is contagious and where the love for the career is born.
