Aguascalientes, Aguascalientes; August 28, 2026.— With the aim of promoting student participation, strengthening dialogue with the university community, and fostering opportunities for collaboration, the Student Association of the Universidad Panamericana , Aguascalientes Campus (SAUP) held the swearing-in ceremony for its executive committee for the 2026–2027 term.
The event was attended by Dr. Antonio de los Reyes Moreno, president of the Aguascalientes campus of the National Autonomous University of the South ( Universidad Panamericana ); Dr. Ramiro Velázquez Guerrero and Dr. Jorge Franco López, vice presidents of the campus; Michelle Raimond, M.A., director of University Life; and Javier Rosas, B.A., director of the Aguascalientes Institute for Youth (IAJU).
SAUP 2026–2027
The SAUP is the highest student representative body at the Universidad Panamericana , and its purpose is to help build a stronger, more inclusive, and more participatory university community through initiatives that address students’ needs and concerns.
For the 2026–2027 term, Natalia Ruiz Esparza, a fifth-semester student in the School of Law, assumed the presidency of the SAUP. Leonardo Bernal González, a ninth-semester civil engineering student, was appointed vice president, while Ana María Olvera Sosa, a fifth-semester student in educational psychology, will serve as secretary general.
A Society for Listening and Building Community
During her first address as president of the SAUP, Natalia emphasized that the establishment of this body is the result of years of vision and months of preparation, effort, and enthusiasm on the part of its members.
“We want every project to have a real impact on students’ lives and to help make their college experience more enriching, more personal, and more memorable,” she said.
During his remarks, he thanked university officials and the University Life team for their support in making this project a reality and noted that one of the SAUP’s main objectives will be to create opportunities for future generations.
He also explained that the new organization will seek to represent and listen to the various segments of the student body, including international students, members of Comunidad Bonaterra and Compromiso Social, athletes, students involved in the arts and culture, as well as students from the campus’s various schools.
Among the initiatives planned for this academic year are: greater promotion of the University’s events and opportunities through a general calendar of activities; the creation of spaces for dialogue and interaction between students and faculty; new strategic partnerships with companies; collaboration with other student federations in the state; and the implementation of focus groups with students from different semesters and majors to gain firsthand insight into their needs and ideas.
He also emphasized that the university will seek to provide students with various opportunities for academic and professional development through partnerships and support programs.
“We want to build a university where everyone feels like they’re part of something bigger—a community with its own identity, a sense of belonging, and students who are proud to be part of it,” he said.
To represent is to listen and serve
In his message, Dr. Antonio de los Reyes encouraged SAUP members to view student representation from a perspective of service and empathy, moving away from a vision of leadership based solely on authority or visibility.
“At the UP, we are clear that representation is achieved from a completely different perspective: through service,” he emphasized.
He also emphasized that the success of the new Student Government should not be measured solely by the number of activities or events it organizes, but rather by the impact its actions have on the college life of its peers and by the close ties it builds with the community.
Finally, he urged the members of the executive committee to take on this responsibility with commitment and enthusiasm, trusting in the strength of the team and striving to leave a legacy that extends beyond the classroom.
“You have the power to inspire many people and leave a mark that extends far beyond the classroom. This is your moment—your moment to set a good example and show what your generation is made of,” he concluded.
A Community That Grows Through Participation
For her part, Michelle Raimond, M.A., emphasized that the college experience extends beyond the classroom and that student participation provides an opportunity to develop talents, build connections, and put personal skills to work for the benefit of others.
“A student organization doesn’t exist just to organize activities; it exists to foster connections and opportunities for growth,” he said.
The director of University Life also invited the members of the new organization to serve as a bridge between students, schools, talent, and initiatives, emphasizing that the impact of their work should be reflected primarily in the people they are able to connect with, empower, and transform.
These types of spaces allow students to develop leadership, collaboration, and service skills, while also strengthening their sense of belonging and building bridges among the various members of the university community.
Through SAUP, students have the opportunity to turn their ideas into concrete initiatives and actively contribute to building a university that is increasingly accessible, participatory, and focused on the common good.
With the swearing-in of the 2026–2027 executive committee, the Aguascalientes campus of the National Institute of Technology ( Universidad Panamericana ) reaffirms its commitment to the well-rounded education of its students, fostering environments where leadership is seen as an opportunity to serve, build community, and leave a positive impact.
