Innovation with a Purpose: A Student at the Universidad Panamericana a Fintech Company to Support the Immigrant Community

Aguascalientes, Aguascalientes, October 21, 2025.— Emiliano González Alvarado, a student at the School of Economics and Business at the Universidad Panamericana Aguascalientes campus, was one of the five finalists for the NTT DATA Mexico 2025 eAwards thanks to his project Remmi, a Mexican fintech company that seeks to promote financial inclusion for migrants through accessible and secure solutions for sending remittances.

A project born of experience and entrepreneurial vision

Emiliano, a seventh-semester student pursuing bachelor’s degrees in Business Administration and Marketing and Business Administration and Finance, has developed a project that aims to transform the way migrants send and manage their money: Remmi, which combines the functionality of banks, neobanks, and credit unions.

The idea came about a little over a year and a half ago during an entrepreneurship camp in New York, where Emiliano identified a real need within the immigrant community. Upon returning to Mexico, he began working on his proposal, which took shape thanks to the guidance of Víctor Hugo De Ávila, manager of the Pan-American Entrepreneurship Hub at the Universidad Panamericana, and mentor Ignacio Arreola, an alumnus of the institution.

“Remmi was born out of a need I experienced firsthand while working in the United States: banking services were limited and difficult for migrants to access. I wanted to offer a fairer and more efficient solution,”, Emiliano explains.

A fintech company with a social impact

Remi stands out for offering money transfer services and debit accounts that allow users to make everyday purchases and transfers between the United States and Mexico. Its model, called Double Rail, combines traditional methods with cryptocurrency-based technology, which helps streamline transfers and reduce costs.

“One of our main goals is to make the user experience easier. We want anyone, regardless of their educational background or access to technology, to be able to use our platform easily and securely, the young entrepreneur emphasized.

The project is currently in the minimum viable product (MVP) phase and continues to integrate financial and technological components with the support of an interdisciplinary team made up of engineering and artificial intelligence students, as well as a law firm specializing in financial matters.

Emiliano also acknowledges that one of the key factors in Remi's development has been the collaboration among various academic departments at the Universidad Panamericana.

“Often, a single person cannot handle all aspects of a project. The synergy between schools and colleges—such as the School of Engineering and the School of Business—allows us to develop more comprehensive solutions with greater impact, he reveals.

UP Representative at NTT Data Mexico

Thanks to its development and innovation, Remmi participated in the NTT DATA Mexico 2025 eAwards , an international competition that brings together hundreds of technology and business projects. Emiliano represented the Universidad Panamericana in this initiative, where his project stood out among more than 500 proposals and made it into the top five finalists.

Although the project didn’t win first place, the experience was a great learning opportunity for the student. “Standing before high-level CEOs in the financial and technology sectors was an incredible opportunity. I think the hardest part is not giving up, but you always have to keep trying, he says.

Currently, Remmi's team continues to work on the final stages of development to launch the platform on the market. Emiliano says that, although the path of entrepreneurship is not easy, the key is to not give up and to stay true to the original purpose.

“I’m grateful to the School of Business for all the tools they’ve given me, the mentorship, and the training. I feel that this isn’t just my project, but that of the many people who have been supporting me and who have given me this opportunity, he notes.
