Universidad PanamericanaAlberto Nordmann-Gomes and Alberto Guijosa Ramirez, students of the School of Medicine of the School of Health Sciences of our university, won first place in the National Contest of Medical Knowledge for Undergraduate Interns, also known as the MIP Challenge.

The MIP Challenge was organized by the internal medicine residents of the Instituto Nacional de Ciencias Médicas y Nutrición Salvador Zubirán, with the support of the internal medicine department, social service interns, the coordination of undergraduate medical interns, and the sponsorship of AMBOSS and ENARMIND.

It consists of a competition aimed at undergraduate medical interns from all over the country, whose objective, in the words of the organizers, is "to test the knowledge acquired throughout the career, as well as to celebrate the completion of such an important stage as the internship".

Dynamics of the IPM Challenge

The competition was held in person at the Instituto Nacional de Ciencias Médicas y Nutrición Salvador Zubirán, from December 19-21, 2022. The call for the tournament was open nationally and the only requirement was that participants be current undergraduate medical interns (MIP) from a hospital in Mexico.

A total of 32 teams of four members each were formed, for a total of 128 participants, making this the largest in the history of the competition.

The competition consisted of five phases, four of them with knowledge questions in the five main medical specialties: internal medicine, surgery, pediatrics, gynecology/obstetrics and emergency medicine . Only four teams were able to advance to phase five, in which participants had to solve a complex clinical case.

The team of Alberto Nordmann-Gomes and Alberto Guijosa was also formed by Elías Rozillio Mercado (student at Universidad Anáhuac Norte) and Santiago Villar Cantoral (student at UNAM), all of them interns at the ABC Medical Center.

UP Pride

"For us, winning first place meant that all the years of the race, in which there has been a lot of effort and sacrifice, were worth it. We are proud of our academic preparation and the way in which we were able to work as a team with excellent undergraduate medical interns to answer each question," state Nordmann and Guijosa.

"At the same time, we are grateful to Panamericanafor everything it has given us, because it led us to achieve this recognition," they both add,

In addition, about their future they indicate: "Using the tools that UP has given us and working as a team with motivated and well-prepared people, as we did in the competition, we will be able to provide excellent medical care to our future patients."

The Panamericana differentiator

The young people explain that, since their first semester, Panamericana has given them the opportunity to learn from great teachers and has encouraged them to study and work hard to understand each concept in depth.

In this way, they indicate that, after four and a half years of career, "we feel very satisfied with the level of preparation that the university gave us to begin the undergraduate medical internship".

"In the competition we had the opportunity to meet very well prepared and intelligent interns from all over the country (...) However, what we also learned from the challenge was that Universidad Panamericana has really helped us to reach a high academic level to be able to compete against the best interns in the country," they explain.

The best version of you

Precisely because of their good results in the National Medical Knowledge Competition for Undergraduate Medical Interns, Nordmann and Guijosa highly recommend other young people to study at our university, stating that "one of the great virtues of Universidad Panamericana lies not only in the great professors it has, but mainly in its great students".

In this regard, they clarify: "Being surrounded by such brilliant people, together with a high level of academic demands, this university motivates you to give your maximum effort during all the years of training, to show the best version of yourself". In their words, this "culminates in the preparation of great doctors academically speaking".

However, another aspect that stands out about Panamericana is its human formation: "During the race we have had the opportunity to create great friendships, and we have realized that we have the support of our classmates and professors".
