Aguascalientes, Ags. February 15, 2023.- Dr. Irery Melchor-Durán, professor at the School of Business of our Panamericana and an expert in entrepreneurship, shares with us some tips for young students to take advantage of the university to become entrepreneurs.

In Mexico, in order to be an entrepreneur/entrepreneur it is not necessary to have a professional license, therefore it sounds out of place that a university could be a place where the necessary skills to create a new business are acquired. The university is a catalyst for the entrepreneurial ecosystem , so it is important to take advantage of the resources it offers.

In this regard, Irery Melchor-Durán, PhD in Administrative Sciences, a research professor at the Universidad PanamericanaD., expert in entrepreneurship in university students, the intersection of social problems with entrepreneurship and the entrepreneurial ecosystem, gives us some tips that young university students can apply in their lives if they are interested in entrepreneurship.

The achievements of an entrepreneur are 50% represented by the ideas and knowledge he/she has and 50% by what he/she does, university students can acquire the necessary competencies to become an entrepreneur during university. Entrepreneurial competencies are divided into 3 (Tittel and Terzidis, 2020): a) personal, b) mastery and c) relational. Read on to learn how you can acquire these tools that you will need during the process of creating a new business.

Tip 1.- Develop your entrepreneurial mindset:

To achieve an entrepreneurial mindset you need to know how to generate and identify market opportunities, for this subjects such as New Product Design, Entrepreneurship, Marketing, Economics can help you.

Tip 2.- Develop your organizational mindset:

An organization-oriented mindset is made up of skills for controlling, coordinating, delegating tasks, developing teams and organizing processes. In this area, mostly structured subjects such as leadership, process optimization, including computer science, mathematics and calculus contribute to making your mental patterns more organization-oriented.

Tip 3.- Develop your management mindset:

To have a strategic and management vision it is necessary to develop skills such as product design, finance, administration, planning, human resources, innovation, business plan, in the university you can find subjects related to these topics, you can also enroll in extracurricular activities such as dance clubs, sports, music and student societies that will allow you to participate in real projects where you will observe how it all works.

Tip 4.- Learn to relate to others:

Negotiation, persuasion, motivation and coaching skills can be gained from day-to-day classroom work when collaborating with peers in teams, as well as from clubs in extracurricular activities or specific subjects.

Tip 5.- Develop personal skills:

To be an entrepreneur you need to know how to deal with ethical dilemmas, be creative, take risks, make decisions, solve problems, take initiative, conceptual and logical thinking, learn to learn, in academic activities you can develop these competencies.

"I invite you to develop these skills within the university and also outside it, it is everyone's responsibility to strengthen the Mexican entrepreneurial ecosystem from the trenches of each one," he invites.

62.8% of people between the ages of 18 and 64 surveyed by the Global Entrepreneurship Monitor (2019) see that there is a good business opportunity that they could implement it where they live, although only 16.3% have the intention of entrepreneurship and 13% are involved in an early entrepreneurial activity, seeing these statistics I encourage them to take advantage of their observation capacity detect business opportunities, and develop their entrepreneurial skills to build a future full of entrepreneurship that generates value for society.
