Mexico City, May 21, 2024.- The alumniof the Universidad Panamericana put the name of our house of studies on high in each of the branches to which they are dedicated. Such is the case of Aerospace Engineering, in which Ángel Mario Zárate Villazón, a graduate of the School of Engineeringis currently working in this field.

Angel is currently a Graduate Research Associate and a Ph.D. student in Aerospace Engineering at the Aerospace Systems Design Laboratory (ASDL) at the Georgia Institute of Technology, and his career is a reflection of the commitment to excellence and innovation that Panamericana seeks to instill in each of its students.

Colibri Mission Space Laboratory

Upon entering college, he was part of Hummingbird Mission, the space lab at Universidad Panamericana. "I started at Colibrí from the first trip to MIT in 2018, we started with a course on nanosatellite design and chose the subsystems to work on," recalls Angel.

He also recalls: "In my third semester I chose the team (within Misión Colibrí) where I could learn the most and it turned out to be Systems Engineering, which was in charge of coordinating the project from the technical point of view. Little by little I took over the leadership of the team, which gave me the responsibility of directing the technical development of the entire satellite.

His passion for aerospace led him to pursue systems engineering at Georgia Institute of Technology. "I had learned a lot about aerospace systems during my time at Colibri and wanted to pursue a graduate degree that would help me formalize this knowledge and provide career opportunities in the field."

Georgia Tech's Aerospace Systems Design Laboratory

That's how he met Professor Dimitri Mavris, who invited him to join the prestigious Aerospace Systems Design Laboratory after making a presentation for a paper.

At Georgia Tech, Angel has worked on several major projects, including race car optimization and sustainable infrastructure development, once again demonstrating his commitment to technological innovation.

One of its most outstanding participations has been in the project Digital Twin Airport City Hub Masterplanning using Digital Twininvolved in the development of the evaluation process and selection of alternatives to develop the master plan for the integration of such infrastructure in the city of Atlanta.
