Dr. Félix Martínez Ríos promotes bioinformatics with a stay in Portugal

Mexico City, February 7, 2025.- Dr. Félix Orlando Martínez Ríos, MD. Félix Orlando Martínez Ríosa tenured research professor, member of the National System of Researchers (SNII), level I, of the Faculty of Engineering Universidad Panamericana, Mexico City Campus, conducted a research stay at the Centro Interdisciplinar de Investigação Marinha e Ambiental. Investigação Marinha e Ambiental (CIIMAR) of the University of PortoPortugal.

This experience, although brief, allowed the academic to join a multinational team dedicated to the development of bioinformatics tools and the analysis of proteins extracted from cephalopods. the development of bioinformatics tools and the analysis of proteins extracted from cephalopods.

International collaboration in bioinformatics

Dr. Martínez Ríos explained that the main objective of his stay was to collaborate with Dr. Dany Domínguez Pérez. Dr. Dany Domínguez Pérezresearcher at CIIMAR and founder of PagBiOmicSon projects focused on obtaining active sequences from proteins.

During his stay, the academic was involved in the design of software and machine learning algorithms to address bioinformatics problems. bioinformaticswhich represents a key advance in his line of research.

"This collaboration will allow me to participate in a multinational group and create new tools for the job, as well as develop projects that will impact several publications", emphasized Dr. Martínez Ríos.

Collaborative networks and the future of research

One of the most outstanding results of this experience was the creation of new networks of collaboration of new collaboration networks with researchers of international prestige.. Among the collaborators with whom Dr. Martínez Ríos worked, in addition to Dany Domínguez Pérez, are:

  • G. Agüero-Chapinassistant researcher at CIIMAR and co-founder of PagBiOmicS.
  • Y. Marrero-Ponceprofessor of pharmacology and bioorganic chemistry at the Universidad San Francisco de Quito.
  • Cátia Moutinhobiologist specialized in clinical trials and medical affairs.

These collaborations will strengthen Dr. Martínez Ríos' research and open new opportunities for future joint research.

Impact on research and the university community.

Dr. Martínez Ríos emphasized that this experience allowed him to access advanced technological resources and establish contacts with leading researchers in his field. "Establishing these new working relationships streamlines and focuses our efforts to achieve impactful results in the international community," he said.he said.

He also stressed the importance of academic mobility and internationalization in university research: "Research stays are important because they allow us to discover new opportunities, as well as to access technological resources for our research."

Next steps

As a result of this stay, Dr. Martínez Ríos will continue to collaborate with the PagBiOmicS team and CIIMAR, with the aim of publishing his research findings and developing new bioinformatics tools.

These contributions will not only benefit Universidad Panamericana, but will also strengthen its position as a leader in the field of bioinformatics internationally.

With this experience, Dr. Felix Martinez Rios demonstrates Universidad Panamericana 's commitment to academic excellence and cutting-edge research. academic excellence and cutting-edge research, consolidatingconsolidating its presence in the global arena.
