Aguascalientes, Aguascalientes, January 19, 2026.— As part of the activities commemorating the 450th anniversary of the city of Aguascalientes, the Universidad Panamericana Aguascalientes campus was invited to participate in a special capacity due to the creative collaboration of its students.
During the “Functional Models” course, taught by Marian Michelle Gámez Oliva, M.A., director of the Innovation and Design Engineering program, fifth-semester students developed the design for the commemorative award at the request of the City Council.
The academic project focused on the conceptualization, design, and formal development of the award, inspired by the Exedra, one of the most iconic architectural elements of the city’s historic center. Through this urban icon, the students incorporated values of identity, belonging, and historical memory, creating a piece that reflects the cultural and institutional legacy of Aguascalientes.
An academic project with a distinct identity and historical significance
The academic project consisted of the conceptualization, design, and formal development of the monument, using the design of the Exedra—one of the most representative architectural and symbolic elements of Aguascalientes’ historic center—as the primary reference. Drawing on this urban icon, the students incorporated values of identity, belonging, and historical memory, reflecting the city’s institutional and social legacy.
The commemorative award was presented during the Solemn Special Session organized by the Aguascalientes City Council, held on January 17, 2026, at City Hall, during which former mayors and municipal presidents were honored for their careers and contributions to the community.
Recognition of Contributions to Higher Education
As a result of this work, the Aguascalientes City Council extended a formal invitation to the students and the Universidad Panamericana to recognize their contribution and collaboration on this project, highlighting the impact of their academic work at an event of historical significance for the city.
The students’ participation not only allowed them to put into practice the technical, creative, and design skills they had acquired in the classroom, but also strengthened the bond between the university community and institutional initiatives aimed at preserving and celebrating the historical memory of Aguascalientes.

Seeing my students participate in a real-world project—one with social impact and historical significance for the city—helps them understand that design and engineering also play a fundamental role in shaping collective identity and memory,” says Michelle Gámez, M.A.
The professor emphasized that this collaboration with government institutions strengthens the bond between academia and society, establishing our institution’s School of Engineering as a leader in innovation, creativity, and education with a human touch.
