Aguascalientes, Aguascalientes, August 11, 2025.—Thanks to the agreement between the Universidad Panamericana and the Latin American Center for Innovation in Logistics (CLI)Rocío Márquez, M.A., professor and director of Industrial Engineering, participated in and taught a course as part of the Bachelor’s Certificate Program in Logistics and Supply Chain Management (UCLOG), designed for undergraduate students based in Bogotá, Colombia.
UCLOG Program: International Training in Logistics and Supply Chain Management
During the second week, the professor collaborated with a colleague from LOGYCA to lead a real-world challenge in partnership with the Bogotá Red Cross, focused on reducingfood waste resulting from supply chain disruptions.
“The Bogotá Red Cross is setting up a food bank where, thanks to corporate donations, basic food items are provided to low-income organizations,”, the professor reports.

The main challenge for the students was to analyze the current state of internal logistics in the warehouse and examine proper product handling in order to propose improvements to both processes and layout, with the goal of preventing what is known as cross-contamination.
A Challenge with Social Impact
As part of the program, and given that the Red Cross food bank is just getting started, students and officials visited the Bogotá Food Bank to learn about its operations and gain insight into what the Red Cross hopes to achieve in the future.
The tour began in Corabastos, Bogotá’s central food market, where they learned about the food collection process, which involves visiting warehouses and receiving food donations. They also learned how to sort food to determine which items are safe to eat and which are not.
Afterward, they visited the Bogotá Food Bank, where, in addition to learning how logistics and food handling actually work in this type of facility, the students and faculty members helped put together the food baskets that are distributed on a daily basis.
Finally, during this week of work, the students presented their findings regarding their proposals for improving the Red Cross food bank.
Practical training and international reach
“The goal of this program is for students in the School of Engineering to continue their training each year, as this is an excellent opportunity to gain hands-on experience in logistics and supply chain management,”, says the professor.

These experiences strengthen ties between educational institutions in different countries—specifically in Latin America—and promote the exchange of experiences and best practices in logistics and supply chain management, thereby helping to train leaders capable of addressing the challenges of global trade and distribution.
International Academic Reach
The participation of faculty members from the University of the Pacific ( Universidad Panamericana ) in academic programs with an international presence represents a significant achievement both academically and internationally.
In the academic sphere, the quality and excellence of educational content are reinforced by sharing up-to-date, high-level knowledge with students and professionals in a globalized context.
