Mexico City, April 17, 2023.- With the objective of training experts in data science, the Graduate Studies area of the School of Engineering of the University of Mexico launched, in a virtual format, the Universidad Panamericana launched, in virtual format, the online Master's Degree in Online Master's Degree in Data Sciencethe first program offered by the faculty in this modality, which will start in October 2023.
The launching event was attended by Dr. Alejandro Ordoñez, director of the School of Engineering; Dr. Lourdes Martínez Villaseñor, coordinator of the Master's Program in Data Science and several university authorities.
Experts with UP seal
Dr. Martínez Villaseñor spoke about the details of the Master's Degree in Data Science and pointed out that "its objective is to train and complement, in excellence, experts in the fields of data mining, artificial intelligence, natural language processing and business intelligence; and the ethical use of this knowledge for the development of society, with the humanistic profile that characterizes Panamericana".
He also explained that the master's degree is online and is aimed at interested professionals who do not live in Mexico City and professionals who are involved in data science projects, "(...) the postgraduate course seeks to prepare students in the strategic part of the business to impact with data science in the processes of companies to create value".
He also indicated that graduates will be able to "positively impact the results of organizations to provide innovative solutions and create strategies on products, processes, operations and markets".
Data Science as a transformation engine
During the event, Dr. Juan Pablo Llamas, Managing Director & Partner of Accenture Analytics And Big Data, Mexico, gave the keynote lecture Data Science as a transformation engine.
In this Llamas mentioned: "We live in an era of profound technological disruption, marked by the convergence in the expansion of storage capacity, processing, analysis and distribution of data and intelligence".
"These new technologies have fed and fed back into the acceleration of human techniques and applications, with a profound impact on talent development and change in modern organizations," he expounded.
He also stated that "the logic of the scientific method has remained one of the fundamental causes of these profound changes: the scientific approach, evidenced in the consolidation of the concept of the new data science, has been perhaps the most powerful driver and link of convergence in this disruptive environment".
He concluded: "Data science and its contributions to data and systems engineering, to advanced analytics applied to practical problems, and to the development of machine learning and artificial intelligence, are the sign of its profound transformative impact; and perhaps we are only at the beginning of this story.
About the program
The master's degree in Data Science will begin in October 2023 and will have a faculty made up of national and international experts in the field.
The program lasts three semesters and integrates knowledge of data science ethics and its legal implications with the development of business problem solving skills through the study of practical case studies applied in sectors such as retail, finance, real estate, among others.
