Mariachi Legends: Videogame inspired by Mexican culture

Zapopan, Jalisco; November 21, 2023.- Alumni, professors and students of the Digital Animation Engineering program at the Panamericana campus Guadalajaraare working together to create a video game inspired by Mexican culture called Mariachi Legends.

Mariachi Legends

The video game is set in the town of Santa Mascota, where La Muerte recruits Pablo Cruz, a detective with a dark past, to help him restore the balance between life and death that has been threatened by the Mariachi Legends. As Pablo Cruz, the player must explore the town and its surroundings to uncover the plans of the Mariachi Legends, an organized crime group, and stop them before it's too late.

How did the idea come about?

This project arose from the need to express Mexican traditions from a different point of view, where elements of the game such as its history, gameplay, mechanics and art style are worked on.

Current stage

Currently the project is in crowdfunding campaign on Kickstarter to give the game more elements. This campaign has already exceeded the funding goal and the team is working on a demo that some Kickstarter backers will be able to play soon.

Elements

One of the most interesting elements of the game is the possibility of cooking traditional Mexican dishes to improve your skills. Within the game there will be a recipe book for the player to learn about some of the most iconic dishes of our country.

Challenges

One of the biggest challenges they have faced has been the change of software they used to create the game. The change of software meant a very big learning curve that the team is still adapting to.
