Zapopan, Jalisco, November 17.—With the aim of strengthening environmental responsibility and social commitment, the Guadalajara campus of theUniversidad Panamericana , and the Ciudad Granja community formed a strategic alliance focused on ecological restoration, social cohesion, and the promotion ofcommunity sustainabilitybased on raising awareness of sustainability.
Environmental Commitment with a Humanistic Vision
Under the “Pan-American Community” model, the university and the community held two days of environmental action in late October and early November 2025, bringing together students, staff, neighbors, and local officials to care for our “common home.”
This collaboration reflects Panamericana University’s Christian and humanistic vision, which is focused not only on improving the aesthetics of the environment but also on building a just, fraternal, and sustainable social order. Through its institutional initiative on Environmental Protection and Sustainability, the university promotes ecological education and community participation, fostering practices that ensure the well-being of future generations.
Tree Adoption: A Success in Community Participation
The first event, held on October 29, 2025, at the UP’s pedestrian entrance across from the Metropolitan Park, focused on “Tree Adoption” and was organized in collaboration with Bosque Urbano de Extra A.C. The event exceeded expectations, with 196 people—including students, staff, alumni, and neighbors —adopting a total of 350 trees.
The breakdown of participation reflected the commitment of the university community: 118 students, 41 staff members, 4 exchange students, 1 alumnus, and 32 members of the general public actively participated in this initiative that brings generations together under a common cause: sustainability.
Granja Verde 360: A Comprehensive Model
As part of this ongoing partnership, the project was inaugurated on November 1, 2025 Granja Verde 360project was inaugurated on November 1, 2025, spearheaded by the Ciudad Granja Neighborhood Association (A.C.) with support from UP Guadalajara and the Zapopan government.
This comprehensive reforestation initiative combined cleanup, streetlight installation, pothole repair, and pest control efforts leading up to the event, during which 50 volunteers—including 13 students and 5 UP staff members—worked alongside local residents to restore public spaces
Andrea De León, president of the Neighborhood Association, highlighted the initiative’s grassroots origins: “Granja Verde 360 was born out of the conviction that we shouldn’t wait for things to change—we have to be the change. It all started with a few determined neighbors, and that was enough to get others to join in and for institutions to get involved.”
The Pan-American Highway as an Agent of Environmental Change
Universidad Panamericana ’s participation in these initiatives is in line with its comprehensive educational mission, which seeks to develop leaders committed to their communities and to promote social and environmental responsibility.
Under the coordination of Ekatherine Acosta, M.A., Head of Social Engagement, and Alfonso Jiménez, M.A., Director of Operations, the university reaffirms its role as an active agent of change by promoting projects that transform the local environment and strengthen its relationship with the community.
Through initiatives like these, the National Association of Organic Farmers ( Universidad Panamericana ) and Ciudad Granja demonstrate that global transformation begins with local actions, moving toward a greener, more compassionate, and more sustainable future, driven by true community sustainability.
