School of Pedagogy and Psychology strengthens support networks for migrants and refugees

Aguascalientes, Aguascalientes, April 10, 2025. As part of their academic training oriented to social impact, the sixth semester students of the School of Pedagogy and Psychology of the Universidad Panamericana campus Aguascalientes are developing a project of educational intervention in social organizations, in collaboration with the civil association USCRI LATAMdedicated to the support of refugees and migrants in Latin America.

A project that seeks to strengthen cultural inclusion

The intervention is carried out with USCRI LATAM (United States Committee for Refugees and Immigrants in Latin America), an international non-governmental organization that works to guarantee the rights and well-being of displaced persons through educational and integration programs.

This project, framed in the subject of Educational intervention in social organizationsaims to to apply pedagogical knowledge in real contexts, through active methodologies of social pedagogy, promoting processes of inclusion, empowerment and community participation.promoting processes of inclusion, empowerment and community participation.

"As part of their final project, the students will carry out a real intervention, for which they have been in charge of designing, planning, diagnosing and intervening in a civil association USCRI, which seeks to support people who are in a state of refugees and through a scholarship, have the possibility of completing their higher education studies".says Mtro. Víctor Hugo de Ávila, professor of the subject.professor of the subject.

As part of the project, young people from Syria and Sudan were invited to a guided tour of the facilities of the Universidad Panamericana campus Aguascalientes, followed by an intercultural cooking workshop, where they shared gastronomic knowledge and personal experiences. 

 

This activity sought to promote cultural inclusion, Spanish language learning and interaction between the student welcoming committees and USCRI beneficiaries.

Comprehensive training with a humanistic approach

For the student Montserrat Gómez Arceothis experience was a transformative opportunity: "As a student of the subject of Educational Intervention in Social Organizations, the experience of working with the children at USCRI has been deeply meaningful"..

"Through the methodology of sociocultural animation in a real environment, I was able to see the power of education to create bonds, spaces of trust and well-being. It has been an experience that impacts not only the academic, but also the human and professional aspects.", added.

Based on participatory dynamicsthe students developed pedagogical tools that promote respect for diversity, empathy and the construction of support networks for people in mobility situations.
