Zapopan, Jalisco; January 24, 2023.- After announcing the new law reform that prohibits smoking in public spaces, the Panamericana is not lagging behind and seeks to follow it up responsibly within its facilities with an effective program called "Acciones con ECO" (Actions with ECO ).
Smoke-free spaces
"Actions with ECO" is the action plan that seeks to promote 100% smoke-free spaces within Panamericana's campuses, thus generating a healthier environment for the university community and the natural environment.
On January 15 of this year, the Federal Government announced the spaces in which smoking tobacco and/or electric vaporizers is strictly prohibited, including: terraces, patios, parks, sports facilities, hotels, shopping malls, hospitals, schools, religious institutions and even public transportation.
After it became known that cigarette smoke generates a very high level of Greenhouse Gases (GHG) and that consumers of this product produce around 225 thousand tons of carbon dioxide each year, Panamericana created the campaign "100% Smoke Free Campus". "100% Smoke-Free Campus" campaign campaign, which came into effect for all its campuses in January 2020.
Reality today
Faced with the new reality that we face today as a nation, being the third country with young smokers and the sixth with adult smokers in the Americas, the UP seeks to generate change with the actions mentioned above in order to change today's statistics for the better.
