Aguascalientes, Aguascalientes, June 9, 2025. The Dr. Gabriela Durán Aguilarresearch professor at the School of Engineering of the University of Aguascalientes the Universidad Panamericana campus Aguascalientes is one of the 17 finalists worldwide in the Mobile World Capital AWARDS with its project Victoriaan artificial lymphatic vessel that seeks to combat secondary lymphedema associated with breast cancer.
International recognition for biomedical innovation
Organized by Mobile World Capital Barcelona (MWCapital)in collaboration with B Lab Spain, GSMA Foundry and the Secretary of State for Digitalization and Artificial Intelligence (SEDIA), launched the first edition of the MWCapital Awards: Technologies for a Sustainable Future.
This new awards program recognizes the most innovative projects that leverage technology to drive the transition to a more sustainable and inclusive future. In line with the United Nations 2030 Agenda and its Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).the initiative celebrates creativity, innovation and tangible impact, driving responsible and global digital transformation.
Out of more than 150 proposals from 34 countries, only 17 projects were selected as finalists, including Victoria, in the Academia and Research Centers category.
The awards are divided into five categories: Companies, SMEs and startups, Non-profit and Benefit and Common Interest Companies (SBIC), Public Institutions and Academia and Research Centers.
The winners will have the opportunity to present their solutions at MWC26 Barcelona, gaining international visibility and access to strategic alliances, funding and collaboration opportunities. This initiative seeks to generate a global movement around responsible innovation.
The MWCapital Awards ceremony will take place on June 12, 2025 at the Torre Glòries in Barcelona. During the event, the six winning projects, recognized for their level of innovation and their ability to drive positive change through technology, will be announced.
Project Victory: health technology with purpose
Inspired by her own experience as a breast cancer survivor, Dr. Gabriela Durán has joined forces to undertake a project to provide a tangible and effective solution to lymphedema, a disabling condition that affects millions of women worldwide after undergoing treatments such as mastectomy and lymph node removal.

The project Victoria project consists of the design and manufacture of a type III Medical Device, permanently implantable in patients, which will help restore lymph circulation and thus prevent lymphedema.
"Through a state-of-the-art intelligent biomedical device, the drainage of accumulated lymphatic fluid is facilitated, reducing inflammation, pain and functional limitations," says Dr. Gabriela Durán.says Dr. Gabriela Durán.
Victoria is developed mainly by Dr. Gabriela Durán of the Universidad Panamericana, Aguascalientes campus; in collaboration with Dr. Alberto Rossa, Ph. Dr. Alberto RossaUniversidad Panamericana, Guadalajara campus; and with Dr. Rita Fuentes, Universidad Panamericana, Guadalajara campus. Dr. Rita Fuentes from Tecnológico de Monterrey, Guadalajara campus.
Accessible innovation without invasive procedures
Unlike other treatments, the proposed device does not require invasive surgeries or rely on expensive drugs; it also significantly reduces pain and inflammation without the need for additional drugs.
On the other hand, its design allows it to adapt to different stages of lymphedema, offering a preventive, therapeutic and accessible alternative for patients from all over the world. It is also designed to be more affordable than conventional treatments.
Commitment to improving people's quality of life
Universidad Panamericana 's main mission is to contribute to the well-being and development of society through education, innovation and technology. Through the Victoria project project, it reaffirms its efforts to generate technological solutions that have a positive impact on people's lives, especially in areas related to health, education, sustainability and digital inclusion.
