Universidad Panamericana celebrates social impact and altruism

Zapopan, Jalisco, December 16, 2024.- The Universidad Panamericana Guadalajara campus, through its Department of Social Engagement, organized the conference Psychological First Aid as a tribute to the partner civil society organizations that collaborate in the comprehensive education of its students.

This event highlighted the university’s commitment to mental health, altruism, and the creation of agents of social change.

The Importance of Mental Health in Overall Well-Being

The conference, led by the psychologists Mariana Iturbe, M.A. and Anel López, addressed the importance of mental health in a world where work, educational, and technological demands create a “culture of unease”

According to experts, lack of sleep is one of the main obstacles to emotional well-being, affecting one's ability to cope with stress.

“Getting a good night’s sleep is the first step in taking care of our mental health, noted Ms. López, explaining how adequate rest regulates essential chemicals such as serotonin and oxytocin, known for their positive effects on mood and interpersonal relationships.

Altruism as a driving force for social change

Under the concept of The Cascade of Generosity, the speakers explained how altruistic acts generate a positive impact on both those who receive them and those who perform them. “Helping others activates hormones such as oxytocin, strengthening bonds and creating a lasting sense of peace and satisfaction,”, they noted.
