II International Congress on History, Literature and Thought

Zapopan, Jalisco; August 21, 2023.- With the purpose of promoting ideas, debate, research and appreciation of the viceregal era, together with the interest of generating awareness about the recognition of being heirs of different cultures, the Institute of Humanities of the Universidad Panamericana campus Guadalajara carried out the Second International Congress of History, Literature and Thought, which took place in person and virtually on the 15th, 16th and 17th of this month, in collaboration with experts in the field at a global level.

Exploring the content

On the first day, the inauguration was presided over by Roberto Rojas Tapia, Director of the Institute of Humanities, Dr. Sergio Velázquez Rodríguez, Vice Rector of the campus, and Dr. Laura Yadira Munguía Ochoa, research professor of the Institute of Humanities.

"Aware that we are the result of the mixture, syncretism and synthesis of at least three cultures, also considering our African ancestry, we are happy to have created this space for historical, literary and thought dialogue, in which we recognize ourselves as congeners and heirs of very rich cultures," said José Roberto Rojas.

Multicultural tables

A panel of experts from different countries such as Mexico, France, Bolivia, Peru and Colombia participated in the roundtables. The moderators also participated in the informative roundtables.

The topics were approached from different perspectives, including the following: mestizaje and society in Peru, philosophy and religion, mestizaje and institutions, culture and traditions, literature, integration of mestizos within the institutional framework, caste and migration, family and society, among others.

"Thank you very much for giving me the opportunity to attend and participate in the Congress, which was wonderful" - Dr. Elvia Carreño Velázquez (UNAM).

"The Congress has been an excellent space for reflection on the mestizaje in Latin America and has allowed to make comparative history between the viceroyalties of New Spain and Peru. It has also provided important information on the history of women protagonists or not that should be studied from new perspectives" - Dr. Ruth Rosas (University of Piura).
