UP students reach world semifinal of Hult Prize

Mexico City, July 27, 2022. Mexiverse is the name of the project with which Karla Roseti, Vannia Cabrera and Victoria Fabila, students at Universidad Panamericana, made it to the world semifinal of the Hult Prize, better known as "the Nobel Prize for students". This is a worldwide competition in which university students participate by promoting entrepreneurial projects in response to an annual social challenge.

Through this project, which was conceived at Xponential Lab and which has received support and advice from the Smart Centerthe students seek to improve the income of indigenous communities through the digital development of Mexican culture, this carried out through NFTs (Non Functional Token) and impacting three Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs): end of poverty, economic growth and reduction of inequalities.

Commitment and interdisciplinarity

The project has a commitment to the indigenous communities and, according to Vannia, seeks to communicate to the world and recognize the ancestral knowledge of these communities: "we seek to give them the recognition they deserve for all the work that has taken them and that we have denied them for so many years".

Through Mexiverse, the team seeks to join the trend of NFTs in order to make Mexico's rich culture visible and try to centralize it in one place so that all foreigners and Mexicans can access this space and see the splendor of Mexico from the comfort of their homes.

For the project, the three students formed an interdisciplinary team: Karla is a student of Industrial Engineering, Vannia of International Business and Victoria of Administration and Marketing.

Victoria believes that the success of her project is due to the fact that "we try to merge the knowledge of each one, because we know that the university gives us these bases (...), I think this has made Mexiverse advance so fast and generate the noise it is generating so far".

And while there has been no lack of obstacles, there has been more to learn: "With this project we have been able to strengthen our talents and achieve common growth with all the knowledge we have," says Karla.

With Mexiverse, the students have sought to provide indigenous artisans with a treatment that makes them feel like part of a work team or a family.

Along the same lines, Vannia points out: "What unites us as a team and together with the university is the human aspect, in which Mexiverse 's ultimate goal is to help indigenous people to have a better quality of life. The NFTs and Mexiverse are just the means we are using to help people, and I think we do this by the example we see every day at the university.

The three students are the first team to participate in Latin America in the "Students' Nobel": "We are very excited, but above all very happy to be able to take Mexiverse to a new level and have an impact on the indigenous communities of Mexico," concludes Karla.
